NORTH KOREA IN PICTURES: NEW YEAR OF THE DRAGON 2024 KCNA WATCH: The people in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea celebrated the lunar New Year's Day in Juche 113(2024). Working people, service personnel of the People's Army and school youth and children visited the bronze statues and smiling portraits of the great leaders on Mansu Hill and in other places, laid floral baskets, bouquets and flowers and paid a tribute to them. A concert of the National Symphony Orchestra took place at the Moranbong Theatre, a performance of the National Acrobatic Troupe and the National Folk Art Troupe at the Pyongyang Circus Theatre and the one-act play "The Man I Want" at the National Theatre on the occasion of the lunar New Year's Day. Colourful art performances were given in different parts of the country. That day, a national kite-flying contest of schoolchildren was held at Kim Il Sung Square. Folk games of schoolchildren were also played in different places including Pyongyang City, Jagang and Kangwon Provinces and Kaesong City. People were entertained with festive foods at public service amenities across the country and enjoyed themselves at the Rungna People's Pleasure Ground, the Amusement Park of Kaeson Youth Park and others. The splendid lighting decorations in all parts of the capital city made the night of the lunar New Year's Day conspicuous. 📸 from: North Korea Girls

Pyongyang, is the largest city in North Korea and also the capital of North Korea, with a population of around 3,183,000 people in 2023. Bicycles are still one of the main transportation for people in Pyongyang. The average North Korean person walks 10,000 steps every day (7.6 kilometers), so you can imagine how much distance they can get if they use a bicycle. Bicycle ownership in North Korea is recorded by the government, as is motorbike and car ownership. In this video, I will take you cycling across a very historic bridge in North Korea, namely the Taedong Bridge. Taedong Bridge was built by the Japanese and completed in 1905. It is one of Pyongyang's two oldest east–west connections via the Taedong Gang, along with the Yanggak Bridge, built in the same year. It was largely destroyed in the Korean War. When Chinese troops advanced near Pyongyang in the winter of 1950, thousands of civilians fled to the rubble of the bridge to cross the river in which several people were killed. The crossing of the ruined Taedong Bridge was part of the larger evacuation of Pyongyang during the Korean War. Thank you and happy watching. #northkorea #cycling #jakaparker

This video presents the life of North Korean people in the countryside and in the border area between North Korea and China. This video comes from my special friends from China and Vietnam who I combined. North Korean rural communities live normally like other Asian countries, even though it's a mountainous countryside, there are many tall buildings. So the population must have increased a lot. In this video I want to share with you about one of the ASMR moments when we interacted with North Korean people. These 2 North Korean people are my friends, they often help me when I need help. You can see in this video that one of them is wearing jeans and wearing a beanie with the NIKE logo, interesting isn't it? Many people ask whether North Koreans can wear jeans, the answer is 'YES', but jeans are very unpopular in North Korea so they don't like jeans and there are no shops that sell jeans. #northkorea #korea #northkoreadaily

Hyesan is a city in the northern part of Ryanggang province of North Korea. It is a hub of river transportation as well as a product distribution centre. It is also the administrative centre of Ryanggang Province. As of 2008, the population of the city is 192,680. Around the 1940s, this city included the nearby Paektu Mountains. However, due to several changes, the area of this city was reduced, and now it only includes the nearby Yalu River. Due to the reunification matter with South Korea, this city is claimed by South Korea, following the boundaries of 1940s, not the one edited by North Korea. Therefore, according to South Korea, Hyesan still includes the nearby Paektu Mountains. South Korea has a conflict with the People's Republic of China because of the Baekdu Mountains. The mountain is actually divided in two: the south parts are ruled by North Korea while the north parts are ruled by the PRC. However, South Korea still claims the northern parts. It is not officially claimed, but on maps printed by South Korea, it is de facto claimed. The Republic of China claims the entire mountain. The city is located in the Paektu Mountains at the border with the People's Republic of China (Jilin province), from which it is separated by the Yalu (Amrok) River. Changbai is the closest Chinese city across the river. #northkorea #northkoreadailylife #jakaparker cr🎥: North Korea Girls

North Korea: Daily Life in The Village In the secluded village of North Korea, life unfolds within the tight grip of a controlled environment. In the heart of the Paektu Mountains in North Korea lies a tranquil village where time seems to slow down. Surrounded by lush greenery and mist-covered peaks, the villagers of Paektu lead simple lives, cultivating the land and fostering a sense of harmony. As the sun rises, its golden rays illuminate traditional houses nestled between the mountains, creating a picturesque scene. The villagers, with weathered faces and warm smiles, greet each other with a sense of familiarity that only a close-knit community can share. In the central square, a modest market comes to life. Locals barter goods and share stories, creating an atmosphere of camaraderie. Children laugh and play, their innocent joy echoing through the narrow pathways. Elders sit together, sipping tea and reminiscing about times long past. The village is a testament to self-sufficiency, with fields yielding bountiful harvests that sustain the community. A collective spirit permeates, and the sense of unity is palpable. A shared commitment to each other's well-being creates a sense of security that extends beyond the tangible. While the world outside may be filled with complexities, the villagers of Paektu find solace in their peaceful existence. The mountains stand as silent guardians, and the village remains a haven where the rhythm of life is in harmony with the natural beauty that surrounds it. source video: special friend #northkorea #dprk #northkoreadailylife

Air Koryo Airline. Tupolev TU-204 Airplane. Pyongyang Airport, North Korea. #northkorea Air Koryo is the state-owned national airline of North Korea, headquartered in Sunan-guyŏk, Pyongyang. Based at Pyongyang International Airport (IATA: FNJ), it operates international scheduled and charter services to points in Asia. Scheduled services are only operated from Pyongyang to Beijing, Chongjin, Macau, Samjiyon, Shenyang, and Vladivostok; additional destinations not listed on their website but showing up elsewhere as charters or seasonal charter services are also included. The first regular charter flights between North Korea and South Korea began in 2003. The first Air Koryo flight operated by a Tu-154 touched down at Seoul's Incheon International Airport. Air Koryo operated 40 return services to Seoul, along with flights into Yangyang and Busan in South Korea. Inter-Korean charters from Hamhung's Sondok Airport to Yangyang International in South Korea began in 2002.[36] Currently, there are no inter-Korean flights, due to laws in both countries. In 2014, Air Koryo operated a series of services to Seoul Incheon International Airport with Tu-204 and An-148 aircraft for the Asian Games. Air Koryo operated an airline interline partnership with Aeroflot (SkyTeam) on services radiating from Vladivostok and Pyongyang until 2017 after it was forced to close the agreement due to newly imposed sanctions. Air Koryo Tupolev TU-204 The first Tupolev Tu-204-300 for Air Koryo was officially handed over to the carrier on 27 December 2007, and was ferried from Ulyanovsk to Pyongyang. It has been fitted out with 16 business class seats and the remaining 150 seats are economy. This was the first Tupolev Tu-204-300 to be exported from Russia. The Tu-204 aircraft are currently scheduled on all international flights out of Pyongyang. With the arrival of the new aircraft, a new seasonal route to Singapore was introduced and the resumption of the Pyongyang-Bangkok route commenced in 2008. Its first revenue-earning flight was made on 8 May 2008. Air Koryo operates another version of the Tu-204 jet, a Tu-204-100B, which they took delivery of on 4 March 2010. The Tu-204-300 is a shortened version of the Tu-204-100B. It started operating scheduled services on 5 March 2010. On 30 March 2010, the two Tupolev Tu-204 have been given the rights to operate into the European Union.[17] The two Tu-204 remain the only planes the airline is allowed to operate on services to the EU. #pyongyang #airkoryo #dprk #northkorea

Hi Guys.. Today we are in Pattani and we will do zuhr prayer in Masjid Kersik. Masjid Kersik official name is Masjid Sultan Muzaffar Shah. Masjid Kersik was built during the reign of Sultan Muzaffar Shah in 16th century. After that, the masjid was regarded as the official masjid for the Kingdom of Malay-Pattani Darussalam. The Masjid is not only a place for pray, but also became the Islamic studies center. Masjid Kersik is historic as it witnessed the rise and fall of Pattani Raya which covered the Malay/Muslim provinces including Pattani, Yala, Satun and Narathiwat, which originated from the ancient kingdom of Langkasuka. It also saw how Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah and Perlis were conquered by Siam Kingdom, but after the Siam Kingdom clash with the British, the four states were returned to the British in 1909. This is the first Masjid in South East Asia that was built using red brick that was arranged and glued by a mixture of shells with black white rice which is pounded and then mixed with white-egg mixture. This method is one of the local Malay methods at past. This is the replica of Phaya Tani Canon. The original Thaya Pani Canon is the largest cannon ever cast in Thailand, measuring nine feet long and made of brass. The cannon was believed to be cast in the early 17th century by a Chinese craftsman by the name of Tok Kayan. Then ruler of Sultanate of Pattani, Baja Biru, ordered the construction of the artillery in response to rumours of a forthcoming attack from Siam. Three cannons were cast – two siege guns known as Seri Patani or Phraya Tani and Seri Negara and a smaller one named Mahalela. After the fall of Ayutthaya empire to the Burmese in 1767, the Sultanate of Pattani renounced its tributary status to Siam and declared its complete independence. 18 years later, Thai army invaded and conquered Pattani. The Seri Patani and Seri Negara were ordered to be sent to Bangkok and now placed in front of the Defence Ministry in Bangkok for years. The replica cannon was cast by artisans of the Fine Arts Department to be presented to the people of Pattani in place on the real one which they had asked for but was rejected by the government on the ground that it was a national property. When the replica cannon arrived in Pattani from Nakhon Pathom on June 2013, it was greeted with warm welcome by some and with disappointment from others. Nine days after the replica of Phraya Tani cannon was installed in Pattani, it was exploded and tore into two pieces. The concrete block on which the replica cannon was the emplaced was also badly shattered by the powerful blast. After visiting and praying at Masjid Kersik, we went to eat Sate in the nearby restaurant. The Sate and Rujak flavor is a little bit similar to Indonesian taste, and it is delicious. Before riding back to our home, we went to see Central Pattani Masjid that is nearby to the restaurant, we don't spent too long in here guys...maybe we will back here in the future...see you guys...bye! Tofu is one of our favorite foods during our stay in North Korea. The freshness, soft texture and natural taste which we think is suitable for our daily consumption. We often 'hunt' tofu in traditional markets and street vendors, and one of our favorite sellers is a tofu seller in the munsu-district area of Pyongyang, they usually sells at night and we often buy tofu there. The salespeople are very friendly. We miss North Korean tofu, really! #Pyongyang #Northkorea

Wander around the Pyongyang subway. The Pyongyang Metro (Korean: 평양 지하철도; MR: P'yŏngyang Chihach'ŏlto) is the rapid transit system in the North Korean capital Pyongyang. It consists of two lines: the Chollima Line, which runs north from Puhŭng Station on the banks of the Taedong River to Pulgŭnbyŏl Station, and the Hyŏksin Line, which runs from Kwangbok Station in the southwest to Ragwŏn Station in the northeast. The two lines intersect at Chŏnu Station. Daily ridership is estimated to be between 300,000 and 700,000. Structural engineering of the Metro was completed by North Korea, with rolling stock and related electronic equipment imported from China. This was later replaced with rolling stock acquired from Germany. On the first floor, there is a supermarket selling food and other daily requirements, while electronics and clothes are to be found on the second floor. As the pictures show, all prices are denominated in Euro. ======================================= Want to see daily life in North Korea? The Ryugyong Hotel (Chosŏn'gŭl: 류경려관; sometimes anglicised as Ryu-Gyong Hotel or Yu-Kyung Hotel) is an unfinished (although topped-out) 105-story, 330 metres (1,080 ft)-tall pyramid-shaped skyscraper in Pyongyang, North Korea. Its name ("capital of willows") is also one of the historical names for Pyongyang. The building is also known as the 105 Building, a reference to its number of floors. The building has been planned as a mixed-use development, which would include a hotel. Construction began in 1987 but was halted in 1992 as North Korea entered a period of economic crisis after the fall of the Soviet Union. After 1992 the building stood topped out, but without any windows or interior fittings. In 2008 construction resumed, and the exterior was completed in 2011. It was planned to open the hotel in 2012, the centenary of Kim Il-sung's birth, but this did not happen. A partial opening was announced for 2013, but this was also cancelled. As of 2018, the building remains unopened and has been called the tallest unfinished building in the world. Source: Wiki

There are no McDonald’s, Starbucks or KFC joints in reclusive North Korea, but there is the Samthaesong Soft Drink Restaurant, which is the North’s take on fast food complete with waffles on the menu. The Samthaesong Soft Drink Restaurant located in Moranbong District, Pyongyang is crowded with Korean and foreign customers. It serves more than 20 kinds of dishes including burgers, waffles, French fries and crispy fried chicken along with soft drinks. It was opened in 2009 and renovated in 2015. Most of the tables are arranged by the semicircle windowed wall so that the customers can take food, looking out the street through windows. It instantly cooks and serves dishes to the customers as they demand.

This shop is called Rakwon Dept. Store, one of the fancy stores located in North Korea. 90% of products sold here are foreign products, and the price is quite 'classy'. One time I took my daughters to buy toys at this store, and my kids chose expensive toys, I refused to buy it and distract them to buy cheaper toys, then the chaos ensued. On the way home. =================== Q: What do you do on the weekends for fun? A: What many foreigner residents and I do in Pyongyang is typical. We don't have much things to do to entertain ourselves. We go to several shops buy groceries or go to the Tongil Market, the one and only traditional market where the foreigners are allowed to. We go to the park to bring our children [and] enjoy the fresh air. My children love to go to public playground area, play [and have] some North Korean Ice cream (eskimo). ==========================

=============================================== Note : Mau tahu kehidupan sehari-hari di Korea Utara ? The Paektu Secret Camp is an area (about 682km outside Pyongyang) where a number of secret bases (secret camp No.0 through No.4) were built according to the policy put forward by President Kim Il Sung at the Nanhutou Meeting in February Juche 25 (1936). These secret camps were hidden in forests and were not disclosed until Korea was liberated. The secret camp No.1 served as headquarters of the Korean People's Army. Preserved here there are Native Home of the General Kim Jong Il, log cabins of headquarters, barracks of guards, a sewing workshop, a secreteriat, a printing house, an arms repair shop, slogan-bearing trees and other relics. http://www.koreakonsult.com/Attraction_Paektu_eng.html ======================================= Gear: Samsung Galaxy S4 mini

NOTE: I will put the subtitle on Thursday (June 15, 2017) =================================================== I was sending my wife a haircut on my subscriptions barbershop, while waiting for my wife, I eat at the restaurant next to the barbershop. Initially I intend to vlog about Korean food at a restaurant in Pyongyang, North Korea, and promote it. But at the time I did not dare to asked permission to the restaurant waitresses, finally I turned on my Gopro in the off-screen mode, and true! shortly after I turned on the Gopro and wanted to order the food, the restaurant's keeper saw the Gopro on the edge of the table and spontaneously forbid me to take pictures, I argued.. At that moment I was so worried but I tried to keep calm still trying to record the food I ordered. The food menu I ordered was: 1. Kimchi 2. Myongtae (fish) soup include rice; And 3. Pan fried tofu with spicy sauce. The total price is all USD 5, I pay it for 10 Euros and they give the change using local money. ==================================================== Lovely music from (Youtube Music Library) Finding the Balance by Kevin MacLeod lisence Creative Commons Attribution (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) Source: http://incompetech.com/music/royalty-free/index.html?isrc=USUAN1100708 Artis: http://incompetech.com/ ==================================================== Gear: GoPro Hero4 Silver ==================================================== Special thanks to DPRK/North Korea, thanks for great experiences and Kimchi! This video is when Me, my family and my friends from Malaysia having vacation out of Pyongyang city, we were going to to Masikryong Ski Resort (about 185 Kms from Pyongyang) for 3 days. To go to Masikryong we could travel with or without a local guide. On our way from Masikryong to Pyongyang we stopped for while in Sinpyong rest area (Sinpyong Lake) for toilet and bought some foods and soft drinks. ============================================== Music by: https://soundcloud.com/joakimkarud/rock-angel =============================================== Want to see daily life in North Korea? This is when I want to reserve a restaurant in Pyongyang for an event, When I went to the restaurant turns out that the restaurant was closed. Then I asked the old man who was sitting in front of the restaurant, looks like he is guarding something, I thought he was guard of the restaurant. The old man told me that the restaurant is open, I knocked the restaurant’s door for a few times but there was no one. Then I turned on my GoPro camera and called my colleague who is more proficient in Korean (while accompanying my wife who bought banana in the store near the restaurant), I asked my colleague to directly asked the old man if the restaurant is actually opened. I knew the old man would not talk to foreigners over the phone, so I lied a bit told him that my colleague is a Korean who want to talk to him, until he finally realized that he was not talking with a Korean but another foreigner. The old man was slightly annoyed because I lied to him, but my point is simply want to make sure whether the restaurant is open or not. I admit I was very poor in Korean language and often got misunderstanding with the Koreans. :-D ====================================== Music by: https://soundcloud.com/pr0beats/rap-instrumental-eminem-type ======================================= Want to see daily life in North Korea? How to exchange USD to North Korean Won (KPW)? This store is one of our favorite, it seems this store may have never been visited by foreigners except us Indonesian, every time we came here, we only saw locals who shopped. There are many Indonesian products from cosmetics to daily meals, from stationaries to storages, the price is cheaper (much more reasonable) than any other stores, and the waitresses were very friendly and we can redeem USD/Euros to KPW using the much better exchange rate than the Local Money Changers reserved for foreigners. =========================================== Gear: Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini Music by: https://soundcloud.com/ameliarasekhy/stand-by-me-beautiful-girls ============================================= Want to see daily life in North Korea? Arrived in Pyongyang, again! Ok, this in one of my favorite restaurant, me, my family and colleagues often eat at this restaurant, the Korean cuisine is very tasty and suitable to our Indonesian tongue. On the other hand, the friendliness of the waitress also very good, they want to interact well with the foreign visitors. In this video I record an activity at the counter, when my wife was making a payment using euro coins, a thing that seems odd to me to be documented. Actually at this restaurant are allowed to openly record, but I think this will be a little different when I recorded it in secret. Unique! The cashier can speak a bit of Indonesian language, he always asks the meaning of a Korean word into Indonesian word, always record and memorize it. So every time we came into the restaurant, she always repeat the words I teach. ======================================= Gear: Samsung S4 Mini Music by: https://soundcloud.com/joakimkarud/keep-on-going ======================================= Want to see daily life in North Korea? Shaving hair in North Korea? Interesting and unique, because the barber in North Korea is mostly women. In Pyongyang, almost in every corner of the city has lots of barbershop, you do not have to worry about your hair longish. If you shave in the usual places (local) room without air conditioning then you will be charged only 10000 won (about 1,2 USD). If you shave in a more classier with air-conditioned rooms it will cost 4-5 US Dollar. In this video I will bring you cycling to a barbershop which is located about 3 km from my home, behind Daesong Department Store, Sanwon Street, Pyongyang. This place is an air-conditioned Barbershop and one of my favorite places to do shave. Although sometimes the electricity off while the shaving process is underway, but fortunately this time in this video the electricity is stable. By the way, the barber woman in this video (I forget her name) is my favorite barber, she was very friendly to me and always give the best service. ======================================= Gear: GoPro Hero4 Silver and GoPro Hero4 Session Music by: https://soundcloud.com/joakimkarud/keep-on-going ======================================= Want to see daily life in North Korea? Many people are asking about the technological developments in North Korea. About their knowledge of computers and the use of other electronic goods. North Korea today is different from North Korea before, now they are more open to technological developments. You can find some electronic and computer stores in Pyongyang city, and when you buy a computer or notebook then you will get it without a LAN port. The LAN port is removed, therefore we can not connect the notebook we bought with a LAN cable. In this video, I followed my friend bought a Notebook's charger adapter at an electronics store in Pyongyang, North Korea. The store also sells various items such as televisions, washing machine, refrigerator, DSLR Cameras, External Hard Disk, USB memory, Notebook, and others. ====================================================== Read these links for more information: 1. http://www.timeout.com/seoul/art/instagrams-from-north-korea 2. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/oct/07/north-korea-privileged-pyongyang-daily-life 3. http://www.nkeconwatch.com/2016/02/04/inofficial-and-official-exchange-rates-in-north-korea-what-is-the-gap/ 4. https://www.nknews.org/2015/10/residents-respond-how-accurate-is-press-coverage-of-n-korean-life/ 5. http://all-that-is-interesting.com/daily-life-in-north-korea-pyongyang ======================================= Want to see daily life in North Korea? READ THE DESCRIPTION I recorded this video (June 28, 2015) in my office in Pyongyang that shows Korean Central TV (KCTV) in North Korea broadcasts the UCL Juventus VS Barcelona. The TV Channel in North Korea usually broadcasts the International Soccer match, such as Bundesliga, English Premier League, La Liga, UCL, World Cup, etc. Though its not live, but delayed broadcast, but they show the real match like in the other countries. There was a hoax about North Korea broadcasts fake the World Cup's final in 2014 that said North won against Portugal in Brazil like in this link http://metro.co.uk/2014/07/12/north-korea-media-tells-country-that-its-team-has-reached-world-cup-final-4796033/ and this http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/world-cup/video/10964529/North-Koreas-fake-World-Cup-final.html But when I lived in North Korea, that fake news about World Cup never happened in North Korea, I watched the real match and we all who lived in North Korea even the local Koreans knows the real winner of the match.

The shop is frequently visited by foreign tourists, in this store there are available a variety of souvenirs such as artwork, herbs and so forth. My several visits to the store with my family or while I served as a photographer for several foreign delegations I took them to visit this store. In this store, it is allowed to take pictures and videos. The employees are also friendly and they allowed to take photos together. For this time I tried to take a video, my wife and I want to buy an embroidery painting but the kind of painting that I want is not available then my wife bought some Tea Ginseng. Several waitresses noticed my GoPro camera, but they don’t mind and thought it was a pocket camera. ===================== Since I came to Pyongyang in November 2012 until I left Pyongyang in March 2016 I got so many experiences. I just wanna share a bit of my life experience in North Korea, mostly in Pyongyang. We are foreigners (Diplomats, Expatriates) who live in Pyongyang can roam freely around Pyongyang, and diplomats got more privileged than other expatriates. There are also many Americans (USA), Canadians, Korean American who works as teachers and professors in Pyongyang. Foreigners can travel to other cities outside Pyongyang, but we must request permission to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Korea. Since I lived in North Korea, I already travel to other cities in Northern, Western, Southern and Eastern side. Well, I still remember how cold winter in Pyongyang. I am Indonesian, and there is no winter in Indonesia, so when I was in Pyongyang and when the winter came I was very excited! Although the electricity doesn't always 'coming up' all day long, and hot water doesn't always 'showing up' during cold, but that's not make my day went to worse. The biggest effect that I had during the winter is the electricity bill increasing. Normally I paid electricity bill 25 euros per month, but during the winter (December, January, February and March) I had paid 140 euros or more, because I must install extra heater in my apartment. And..through this video I will take you to feel the sensation of cycling in winter in Pyongyang, North Korea. Overall, I love the clean air, and the DPRK people are friendly but many of them are hesitant to communicate with foreigners. On 2 november 2015, I did a little trip to the Pyongyang subway together with my colleagues Drewkelly and Scott (the person that weared Google Glass). They are citizens of the United States who worked in North korea as a lecturer at a university in Pyongyang. We knew each other via instagram account, while in north korea we often upload our daily lives via instagram, until finally we made an appointment to meet and travel together in pyongyang city. During our trip we were apart in vehicle, I use my own car and they use government car and driver and accompanied by a local guide. We visited all the metro stations in the Pyongyang city and paid 20 euro each person, we thought the fee was 'worth it' because this is a very rare experience, we visited all the metro stations which is usually shouldn't be visited by foreigners. Although there were some stations we were still forbid to visit but we could saw the stations from the train. Sorry I recorded this video not good and irregular, because at that time I was focused to take photos instead of video. I recorded this video using GoPro hero4 session. ====================================== Follow these instagram accounts to see another great pictures from inside North Korea: 1. https://www.instagram.com/drewkelly/ 2. https://www.instagram.com/ttocslliw/ 3. https://www.instagram.com/everydaydprk/

Gear: Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini Question: Your instagrams from North Korea are very illuminating. While you post a lot from Pyongyang, you get out and about around the country, like Chongjin. Please tell me what you’re trying to do with your photos (show an unseen part of North Korea? Counter people’s stereotypes?) Answer: About my photos, actually at first, I just tried to showcase my works, I am learning photography, but then I get many viewers, because the topics about North Korea are interesting for many people. I get addicted, I tried to learn anything how to make a good photograph and practise everyday. I don’t mean anything like ‘show an unseen part of North Korea’ or ‘counter people’s stereotype’ because the photos that I took are mostly daily life photos of North Korea, and all are everything I saw everyday. I just try to show everything I experienced in my daily life in North Korea which actually quite normal.

http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/oct/07/north-korea-privileged-pyongyang-daily-life ===================================================== Please read this description. This video is the continuation of 'Argentina' Store in North Korea - Part 1 - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuBcVS_r-Hc -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- The store located in the third floor of the same building. We *me and my wife* were intended to buy flashlights made in DPRK like what we had at home for souvenirs..but the store didn't have available stock. This store has provide many things such as houseware products, toys, groceries, clothes and jackets, etc.. but, unfortunately when we went there, the electricity were blackout, so it was very dark, the products can barely seen in the video. Finally we bought the other flashlight which also DPRK made, but from 4 units that was they offered, only one unit that is exceptionally working. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Why I write 'ARGENTINA STORE'? Actually the name of the store is "SEONBONG" store..but we..the foreign residents who live in Pyongyang called this store as 'Argentina Store' because it was a lot of stuffs from Argentina sold in this store, even when I first came in 2012 there was still many argentina's products. But nowadays..the stuffs are varied, not many more from Argentina, but there are many from China, and Indonesia also. I shopped to this store occasionally, usually I came to this store to buy some body care such as soaps and shampoos, snacks such as wafers and biscuits, and medicines because the prices are usually cheaper than some other stores. When I live there, there are nearly no One-Stop-Shopping in North Korea where you can find all the things you want in one place, usually I buy things in one store and then go find another things in other store. Well, there is some stores where you can find nearly all the things you want, but sometimes the price are not really acceptable, I mean, the price are more expensive than other store.. Local people also can do shopping in this store. ====================================== Many people asked me.. "How could you upload youtube video in NK?". "He uploads the video after he back to Indonesia, because he didn't dare if he upload directly from NK". Nope..that is not entirely True.. The answer is.. I already back to Indonesia, and currently I live in Indonesia.. My first 23 videos was uploaded when I was in North Korea. =================================================== Since I came to Pyongyang in November 2012 until I left Pyongyang in March 2016 I got so many experiences. We are foreigners (Diplomats and Expatriates) who live in Pyongyang can roam freely around Pyongyang, and diplomats got more privileged than other expatriates. There are also many Americans /USA, Canadians, Korean American who works as teachers and professors in Pyongyang. Foreigners can travel to other cities outside Pyongyang, but we must request permission to Ministry of Foreign Affairs of North Korea. Since I lived in North Korea, I already travel to other cities in Northern, Western, Southern and Eastern side. I have North Korea driver licence. In this video is a Petrol station that located near Foreigners compound, I always bought petrol in this petrol station, because the petrol quality in this station is better than the other stations in DPRK, but the price is sure more expensive. Since I Iived there, the price of petrol (Benzene 95) is fluctuate in in range of 0.74 USD - 0.92 USD per litre. Yes the price in USD, but we can pay in Euro and Chinese Yuan. Another video on my daily life in Pyongyang, North Korea. This is another shot when I was picking up my daughter after school, 19 November 2015. ========================== Actually this my 18th video that I was uploaded on December 19, 2015. I re-upload this video because after I checked there were some error when I tried to playback the video, so I apologize if this is annoying to my subscribers. I was uploaded the video when I was in Pyongyang, it took about two days to upload the video in Pyongyang, maybe there were several disconnection problems that makes the previous video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eB3GKMRSMmo ) didn't uploaded properly I just want perfection to all my videos. Once again, sorry and thanks for subscribed. ======================================= Want to see daily life in North Korea? Lets climb mount. Paektu - October 9, 2015 - A young conductor leads a student orchestra on the streets of Pyongyang as the city prepares itself to celebrate 10/10 (October 10) Party Foundation Day. This performance was for enliven the 70th anniversary of the foundation of the Workers' Party of Korea (WPK) on October 10th 2015. I was walking to the Ponghwa Street's area to bought some groceries in several shops in the neighbourhood and saw this performance by local students which played one of my favorite song "We Will Climb Mount Paektu". ======================================= Want to see daily life in North Korea? November 30, 2015 This video covers my journey to a store called Amnokgang to buy an Indonesian brand detergent. In this shop, there are lots of Indonesian products such as soaps, shampoos, biscuits, baby products, even clothes from Indonesia. One of the waitress even can speak bahasa Indonesia very fluently, she told me it was because she was working in Pyongyang Restaurant in Jakarta for three years. But in this video I haven't had enough confidence to bring my GoPro camera inside, like I always used to do..I have to learn the situation first. ======================================= Want to see daily life in North Korea? This is the continuation of the Video "Buy DVD in North Korea" and "Buy Comic Books in North Korea" After bought the comic book, I asked my wife to hurry to go home, because it is really cold..then we took another side of road through the North Korean neighbourhood in Munsu3dong District in Pyongyang. Well, what I am doing here in my videos in North Korea is only me showing my LIFE in North Korea, where it is mostly in my environtment/neighbourhood, which is the where I live, in Munsudong District in Pyongyang. Going to Shop, public park, playground, taking pics in public, picking my daughter in her school, accompany my wife to hospital, I couldn't understand why people take it as propaganda. While it is what mostly people do in their daily life, and as foreigner who live in other country I really want to document my life before I go home to my original country, so in my last year in North Korea, I record videos as much as I can, mostly in my neighbourhood of course. ======================================= Want to see daily life in North Korea? Pyongyang - January 9, 2016 This is a continuation of the previous video 'Buy DVD in North Korea ' . After we bought the DVDs , I want to directly go home because the weather is very cold, but my wife asked me to walk around for a while in that neighbourhood, then we found a bookstore, I was immediately attracted to a local comic book it sells. I do not know what the comic book tells about, I am not proficient in Korean, but I can read the Korean letters fluently. In this video I decided to buy a Korean comic book which the price is 10.000 won, but when I looked at my wallet, I don't have enough North Korean Won (KPW), so I give her 1 USD instead, but she refused because 1 USD only worth 8000 won, so I need to pay more, the store keeper asked me to give her 5000 won when she saw whats inside my wallet, she asked me to give her 1 USD and 5000 KPW and then give me 3000 KPW in return. For your information, in Pyongyang we can widely use several currency such as USD, Euro, Chinese Yuan, and North Korean Won, that's why I have money in different currencies in my wallet. You can check this by visiting @drewkelly instagram account (https://www.instagram.com/drewkelly/). One year ago, May 18, 2015, my 3rd baby was born. My wife was gave birth to our 2nd and 3rd child in Pyongyang, in April 2013, and May 2015. I never thought that we will have our babies delivered in #Pyongyang. It was an extraordinary experience. We thankfull to God that our children can grow healthy. Happy first birthday for you Areumdaptta :-* :-* :-* Pyongyang Maternity Hospital is said to be the best Maternity Hospital in North Korea. From my experience, it is like a standard local government hospital in a developing country, nothing fancy. They have standard equipments, though its looks quite old, the fabrics for patient clothes, doctor clothes, bed linens, blankets etc are shabby but all are clean and sterile. But the source problem is a main problem in North Korea. The best maternity hospital in Pyongyang is not immune to electricity problems. My wife was gave birth to my second daughter in April 2013, and the third daughter in May 2015, it was already spring. The weather is still rather cold for us people who came from tropical country. But in Pyongyang we already used to deal with heater problems too. In Pyongyang Maternity Hospital, I experienced several times water and electricity blackout, and like in many places in North Korea, the central heater don't work. The most different thing we saw (from my own culture) that those Korean women who gave birth in this hospital, none of them accompanied by family, even their husband. I was once told that this regulation is to keep the sterile conditions of the hospital. But I was allowed to enter the delivery room after my wife gave birth, and then accompanied her to the recovery room. We don't stay long in that hospital, on both childbirth process (the childbirth process of my second and third daughter), we only stayed at hospital for about 10 hours. We came in the morning and back home in the evening. Want to see daily life in North Korea? please follow my instagram account : http://www.instagram.com/jakaparker #jakaparker #northkorea

I was sending my stuffs to Indonesia using the service from a cargo company which has branch in Pyongyang. The price for delivery from Pyongyang to Indonesia is USD 11 for 1 kilogram. We don't have much option to send stuffs in or out of North Korea since there is limited access and also impact of sanction.

I was driving in 13 January 2016 and saw a "yellow van" headed to Diplomatic Compound in Munsudong District. The other interesting thing is I saw many Pyongyang citizens walking down the streets, which I knew later that they were prepared to welcome the scientists , servicemen, workers and officers of North Korea cruised throughout the city inside several brown buses that also recorded in this video. People were gathered at the streets hours ahead of time in the cold weather.

Sorry for not updating for two weeks, i had been busy so i hadn't compiled any videos yet, the electricity is also a main problem, Pyongyang is getting colder this winter time, water, heater, and electricity is not always reliable, so i rather stay at home. This is a video when i went cycling before the weather getting colder, i hope you're not getting bored. i'll upload other videos later.

This time at one of new year's holiday in 3 January 2016, we went to Grand Monument on Mansudae Hill and saw many Korean people went there to pay respect to their dear leader. Usually I came to Mansudae Grand Monument only to take pictures. But now, after 3 years living in North Korea, this time I want to try to do things like the North Korean does at new year, so I bought the flower bucket from the street stall and lay the flower at the feet of the statues at Mansudae Grand Monument. well, no faith attached...

This is when me and my wife went to Italia Pizza Restaurant inside Mirae Scientist Street Apartment's complex, its not our first time came, but entering the Mirae Street is not always allowed for car, i don't know the exact reasons, but maybe because there are still some preparations inside. This time in 6 December 2015 we were allowed to enter Mirae Scientist Street but it was at 16.30 pm, not meal time actually and we have to wait for about 30 minutes because the electricity were off several times. Adelyna Parker and Arittaptta Parker are my daughters. This is the first time i brought them to enter the newly opened-floating-restaurant on Taedong River, the boat/ship/ferry is named Rainbow (Mujigae) ship. It has 3 floors, and mostly restaurant inside. Well, we're there to look for their favorite menu. Ice Cream.

I just want to documented my children's experience in North Korea. Actually we have a lot of their videos playing inside this supermarket. And this is one of them. In North Korea, there are many supermarket with the playground inside, Pyongyang Adong Paekhwajom is intended supermarket for children, it has three floors, and all the floor has a playground, in this video we try the playground at 1st and 3rd floor. There are also many children toys, clothes, books, and all children stuffs sold in this supermarket with the cheap price. We foreigner can buy those stuffs too, the price are no different except the price for entering the play area, for foreigner every child has to pay 2000 korean won, while local children only pay for 300 korean won. In North Korea there are also many public areas with sport centers and playgrounds installed outdoors, but in this cold weather, we choose an indoor playgorund.

This is my second attempt to enter the Mirae Scientist Street. Fortunately this time we were allowed to enter, I told the guard that we want to eat Pizza at An Italian Restaurant inside the street apartement's complex. Before the renovation started, we oftenly came to that Italia a la North Korea Pizza Restaurant. This is the first time we enter this Mirae Scientist's Street after the renovation, the Pizza restaurant location is moved from its previous location, so at first i really cant find the restaurant, so i asked many local people around where the restaurant is..fortunately we found it... November 14th, 2015 This is my first attempt to enter the newly opened Mirae Scientist's Street..I drove from my neighbourhood in Foreigner's compound in Munsu District, went alongside Taedong River in Pyongyang city, but unfortunately, there is a checkpoint before entering the newly Mirae Scientist Street. Finally, can I go inside? Continuation of the previous video. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-MB-R_6VsBM This is the second part of two videos.
