Newgrounds Snowboarding is a game I first conceived of back in 2010. I had done some early work on it then, but it was fairly quickly shelved. The Incredible Hulk is Phase 1 character that I felt I knew best during the Phase 1 build-up to The Avengers. The did some really interesting things with this movie, yet we were also left with the impression that it had all been done before. It's a mixed bag of a movie, hamstrung by a distribution deal with Universal, and lost among the eventual house-style of Marvel. It doesn't fit it, yet that's some of what I like best about it! After the success of #ReleaseTheSnyderCut leading to Zack Snyder's Justice League, fans pivoted to #RestoreTheSnyderVerse. I have been beyond frustrated with the handling of the Star Wars franchise, specifically the Skywalker Saga, and *especially* the Disney Sequel Trilogy. There is some GREAT stuff in there, and a lot that I think it completely and utterly broken. My aim with this video, is to lean on the Timothy Zahn trilogy of Thrawn novels (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, and The Last Command) to made out a brand new pre-sequel trilogy that would work to correct and (in my mind) improve the Skywalker Saga. We now have the complete Season 1 of Netflix's new He-Man cartoon, Masters of the Universe: Revelation. I liked Revelation Part 1 more than many, and gave it an overall positive review, despite it's flaws. I think Part 2 REALLY stepped things up. After listening to Frank Herbert's Dune on audiobook, I fell in love with this world and story. I realized I had been seeing references to it *everywhere* all my life, and never knew. Anyone who has followed me for an extended period will know what a massive fan I am of the 1995 Mortal Kombat movie! The whole thing was baffling, and resulted in a train wreck of a film! I had assumed for all these years, that Snyder did not finish filming his movie, or that if he did, MORE would not fix the problems Justice League had. So I've been a Snyder Cut denier all this time, assuming that the movie both (A) did not exist and (B) would never see the light of day. BOY was I wrong! Not only has the Zack Snyder's Justice League been released, against all my preconceived notions it was actually... GOOD?! I do not think it is perfect. It has a few major issues - not the least of which is how absurdly long it. But this is a MUCH more functional and infinitely more enjoyable viewing experience! I don't know if we should #RestoreTheSnyderVerse ? But maybe we could still see a sequel to this in some way shape or form!? Maybe a Knightmare sequel, or a miniseries!? That could be very cool! More downs than ups, that's for sure... And Justice League (2017) was probably among the worst. The movie suffered from acting as a team up movie of individual characters we had never met, and that was going to be a hurdle no matter what by rushing this movie. But more than that, rewrites, reshoots, demands from the studio to keep it under 2 hours, and the final edit being handed off to Josh Whedon (dubbed Josstice League) this movie was hacked together into a lifeless, forgettable experience. After years of demands to #ReleasetheSnyderCut​, we now somehow exist in a timeline where that has become a reality!? I was a naysayer, and have obviously now been proven wrong. I wanted to rewatch the original theatrical release of Justice League from Joss Whedon, put together my complete thoughts on that experience - and then go into Zack Snyder's Justice League with that context front and center in my mind! This movie is still steaming hot garbage. But honestly not as bad as I remembered. A few glaring missteps, and a poorly explained plot really drag this down. In the early 2010's Newgrounds ran a series of Game Jams, typically hosted and co-ordinated by AustinBreed. You were able to sign up as an artist, programmer, musician, or essentially a "wild card" and were randomly grouped with other creators. You then had 72 hours to conceive of and jam out a game. This random pairing yielded interesting results, and I felt that I learned a lot each time! I took part in NG Game Jam 1, 2, and 7. I technically also took part in Jam 5, but we did not complete our game. Mortal Kombat was all the rage in the 90s. This fighting game stormed arcades as a disruptor, presenting something new and compelling that immediately became a fan favourite. Shortly after the release of Mortal Kombat and Mortal Kombat II, Hollywood capitalized on that success and put the Mortal Kombat 1995 film into production! Here we are, 26 years later, and Mortal Kombat 1995 is still the best video game movie adaptation ever made. That bar is generally quite low unfortunately... But I think this movie goes well beyond that with it's action, characters, casting, design choices, iconic moments, and general creativity! This acts as a Mortal Kombat movie review, but also as an argument that this movie isn't simply a cult classic. After a recent move (recorded back in February 2020...) I was sorting through my DVD collection, deciding that I should probably get rid of most of them. The #1 thing that stops me from simply recycling all those discs, are the awesome Special Features included on nearly every DVD! Streaming Services have eclipsed the market, and are undeniably solidified as the primary way through which we all watch movies. But they have totally failed to capture the joy and magic of Commentary Tracks, Bonus Featurettes, Behind the Scenes, and Making Of extras that are half of the fun of owning/watching movies! Netflix, Hulu, HBOMax, Disney+, Crave, and any others should all be offering this additional content alongside their moves. At a bare minimum, why do streaming services not offer this for their original content!? Back for the 10th anniversary of JonBro's (Jonochrome) Riddle School in 2016, I made a full top-to-bottom remake of Riddle School 1. Not simply an update to the graphics, but a redesign that made the game feel more like later installments of the series, as well as a few new puzzles to add something new for any long time fans who had the game memorized already. Looking deeper into that, I think we can expect to see more AAA video game movie adaptations than every before in the coming years. Simultaneous to that, we are seeing loads of TV adaptations of these games! But, the most interesting part of all, is that indie game IPs are being bought up at the same time. With Community being released in it's entirety on Netflix and Hulu (including the hard to find Season 6 from Yahoo), now is the perfect time to give the series a chance! Whether it's your first viewing, or your 10th rewatch, there are so many wonderful things to appreciate about this show! And while I'm sure there are a fair amount of people who still enjoyed Season 4 - I think I fall in the majority, when I say it was simply a weak season. It is missing so much about what worked before AND after it. I have a deep personal affection for the Riddle School series, right from the beginning, all the way through to the one-again-off-again Riddle Transfer 2. While we may never get the fully intended Riddle Transfer 3 and continuing series, I think Jon did an amazing job wrapping it all up! Diablo II was released back in 2000, and not only has it aged incredibly well, I would still argue that everything about the first hour (or more!) of the experience is PERFECT!! Remembering Diablo 2 in 2020, on the 20th anniversary of this legendary game only seems fitting. Over the years I have probably completed Diablo 2 with dozens of characters. But I would estimate I've played Diablo II intro closer to a hundred times. That's not to say that the rest of the game doesn't live up to that initial excellence, but those early stages of the game are crafted with such love and care, that it creates one of the most memorable gaming experiences of my childhood and life. Maybe someday we'll get that Diablo 2 remake or remaster that we've all been begging for. But for now I am content to revel in the nostalgia of Diablo II's soundtrack, and wonderful game design in it's current form. Maybe a Diablo 2 remaster would never live up anyway? With some of the more recent news surrounding Sony dating a new Marvel movie for October 2021, as well as Sony using Spider-Man and Vulture in the new Morbius trailer, it seems like some larger things are cooking behind the scenes. Sony and Marvel struck a new Spider-Man deal late last year. We will be getting a new Spider-Man 3 in the MCU. But with films like Venom 2, Morbius, and more still happening - it is becoming increasingly likely that these universes either need to merge, or find a way to co-exist. I think Morbius, Blade, vampires, and Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness are all our best hints that there is a new plan coming that will all both studios to play in their respective sandboxes for a win-win-win scenario. There are a 1000 different ways this could all play out, but I was excited to share this specific prediction. A video essay look at Breaking Bad's "Fly". The lowest rated episode in the entire series. In anticipation of El Camino's release, I have been rewatching all of Breaking Bad. Oddly, I had this itch of anticipation approaching s03 e10, remembering that "Fly" was such a polarizing episode. But I was also far more attentive with this second viewing of the show, and wanted to give Fly a second chance rather than simply writing it off. I was surprised to see that not only was the episode not as weak as I remembered, it's actually incredibly well made, and packed with profoundly resonant moments. Through the adaptive setup given by Vince Gilligan, outstanding writing of Sam Catlin and Moira Walley-Beckett, and the inspired directing of Rian Johnson, I now see that Breaking Bad might actually be a perfect series. What used to be viewed as the worst episode of the show, now can be see as the eye of the storm. Seriously, I LOVE this show more than ever now. I always remembered it as great, but after a second watch, it is easily one of my all time favourite series. I absolute ADORE Rocketman, and think Bohemian Rhapsody was safe and boring. I decided that I wanted to compare the two movies, from the writing and stories, to Taron Egerton as Elton John and Rami Malek as Freddie Mercury, and the overall performances and execution of these two movies. I try not to dwell on the Oscars and Golden Globes, and Rocketman & Taron's obvious snubs. But there is definitely a bitterness felt over that.
