How to rearm inert fuzes from military surplus retailers for use with smoke devices. Be advised this process creates an open system with an ignited visco fuse used to ignite legal smoke compositions. It does not create an internally burning, gasless, time-delayed detonator which is used in fragmenting/antipersonnel devices. Colored Smoke Canister Made From a Tiki Torch Can | Testing New Design

**Order a Pull-Cord Igniter Kit 50ct for $40 from my website! (it's easy to find) Testing a new design for a colored smoke device. It uses an inert M228 Fuze as an igniter and ejects bottom plate off to expose exit orifice. The exit orifice is too large in this case and as a result it flares up and doesn't eject smoke as aggressively as desired. That is because the backpressure generated by the exit orifice is one factor that contributes to the reaction rate and smoke ejection velocity. The brilliant color is a result of the sublimation of the yellow and red solvent dyes. While shrinking the EO should eliminate flare-ups, a baffle would be great to separate the apparently flammable ejected dye from it's ignition source in the core. I am going to test the addition of one fastener (screw or rivet) on the edge of the [ejected] bottom plate to have it serve as a flutter valve instead of flying off. The next version will be the final version and will be included in an Ultimate Colored Smoke Composition Video. This video will include all superior color recipes and device design. I'll confidently challenge the internet to beat any one of these formulas. Building and testing the use of a Moisture-Resistant Resin-Bound Smoke Mixture loaded into a 4oz flask. After testing, I realized that a flask-shaped device is extremely efficient space-wise, compared the the current cylindrical shape used by the military. Four or five of these devices can be stored in the same space as two M-18's. Google me to get a Pull-Cord kit or link in bio The massive cloud produced by these HC/Zinc mixtures is on a different level. On a volume-of-composition to cloud-produced basis, nothing compares. The secret is that more than 60% of that cloud is water vapor. HC reactions draw up to 2.5x it's mass in water vapor from the environment. Be advised that HC smoke's are not good to breathe and all safety precautions should be used including a respirator. Follow all Federal, state and Local Laws. This homemade Generator sound dampener (muffler) reduces noise by 45%. We test this claim with Decibel readings and data analysis. We use thermal imaging to determine the risks of overheating, which prove to be minimal: an 8 degree F increase in directly-measured motor temp when the generator is operating at a 25% wattage load. Conclusion: this thing works, and use it with discretion. If it's 114 degrees outside, maybe avoid it. I standby my statement that all CO alarms on portable outdoor generators cause harm and should be deleted. I believe companies are acting unethically by continuing to produce and promote CO alarms on outdoor generators. Get a Pull string Igniter kit at https://www.inventionincarnate.com This experiment was supposed to be a joke, but it led to a game changing discovery in the small field of backyard science and engineering of high performance DIY smoke 'nades . Most commercial smoke devices [kinda suck and] start fires. Some, such as the IWA Large Smoke seen in ​⁠@DeskPop 's video just straight up self-ignite, even when landing in sand or gravel: https://youtu.be/XSJZGOYAw2Y?si=NvK-tqyUyUmSEffd&t=646 Over this last year we have been able to develop a smoke grrn'de that sports an m-228 fuze and spoon, has a time delay of our choosing, and undeniably outperforms the military's comparable devices. The problem is that the composition used in that device contains Hexachloroethane (HC) and is kinda toxic. Put it this way: The US military would use TPA Smokes for training (frequent exposure) and HC smokes for war (less frequent exposure) where the risk of exposure to HC smoke is outweighed by the need for effective screening. [**YT is not letting me type my website or email in this text description--this is new] TPA, or Terephthalic Acid is an ingredient used to make things like plastic bottles and clothing, at least that's what Wikipedia says. It is a significantly less toxic solution and, to date, the safest choice. The TPA smoke formula is the same formula developed by Joe Domanico, Chief of US Army Pyrotechnics Division, and used by the US Military as a base for M-18's even today. (Though the formula varies by color.) TPA has a high optical density, aka you can't see through the cloud, and it will linger airborne for 28 minutes if confined/not dispersed by wind. The biggest problem we've had while creating devices using the TPA formula is that it will flare up if not confined and baffled properly, with adequate headspace etc. This decreases the smoke output and risks fires. Also, the baffling configuration takes up valuable space that could be used for the smoke mix. More mix=More smoke. Up to this point, I haven't been able to make a homemade device which contains compressed and cored TPA inside of a Tiki Torch Can without massive flareups. Mind you, I keep all my processes reproducible for the people in a SHTF scenario. 3D modeling, CNC, 3D printing, welding, are not options. But those things are awesome and I reserve the right to totally change my mind and the rules at my fancy. Well it turns out that a silicone fart-valve, when used with TPA-based smoke devices, eliminates flare ups. Flare-ups with TPA devices are the biggest obstacle in creating safe, effective, and potent smoke devices for use in paintball and airsoft. Be advised: We only got a little fart out of the first test so it's not as funny as it sounds. I'm literally in the process this moment of developing the ultimate paintball/airsoft device and process. I plan to release this video within the month. To determine if you are interested here are the attributes of said device: POSITIVE: -exact dimensions of an M18 canister, -cheap, -highly effective (if I say "highly effective" it means higher observable Smoke output vs commercial devices of comparable size) -bulk-producible, -disposable, -less-toxic, -will not start fires Negative: -It will not be waterproof, -it will not be metal, -iit will not have a cool spoon and mousetrap ignition. Recommend (normal road flare) road flare placement for a disabled vehicle: -first flare 20ft behind vehicle -second flare 100ft behind vehicle -optional third flare (if on a crest of hill or on curve) 20 ft in front of vehicle After many failed tests, I realized that it would be wildly dangerous to have this thing launch more than 5 feet. The intended purpose is two-fold. First, dropping flares from the right side of the truck could protect another disabled vehicle in the event that there was not an opportunity to pull over safely. Second, dropping flares from the left side of truck in the event that my vehicle had an emergency pull over. I know that normal people don’t have an Alexa-controlled Vehicle, or 110V power system, or a Local Area Network and Internet Modem in their car or truck. As far as I can tell, it's the best DIY ignition system out there. As I come up with new ideas I will post them. If you want to add a safety measure to prevent accidental ignition, that can be done by either: - (simply) with a piece of tape holding down pull ring to the side of the canister - (complicatedly) by crimping a ribbon crimp (wal mart crafts dept) to the pull line, then running a hitch pin, or a thin cotter pin through the ribbon crimp loop and top of the canister. honestly, that way sucks because it is complicated and difficult to execute without severing the ripcord. - another way is to simply fold over the pin cord and zip-tie it to the top of canister, if the zip tie is thick you can partly sever with toenail clippers. In this video we are testing the bond strength of five different PVC glues. They are Azek, Versatex, Oatey Fusion, Oatey Regular PVC Cement, and a cyanoacrylate [Super] glue called 2P-10. The results were NOT what I expected! Respect to @ProjectFarm for the data-driven methodology, and inspiration. Excerpt from Versatex Technical Bulletin B-3: [Bonding When bonding VERSATEX to itself or another PVC material, most standard PVC pipe cements perform well especially those that are solvent based. Care should be taken to assure the substrates are clean and dry. Also, cements with moderate to slow setup time are preferred. When bonding VERSATEX sheets to themselves to obtain a thicker product, longer adhesive cure time will be required. Extreme Adhesive PVC TrimWelder Laminating Grade is an ideal product for this application. Through independent testing VERSATEX has identified a few adhesives and sealants that provide outstanding PVC bond strength (see chart on the next (2) pages). Although most cyanoacrylates (super glues) are excellent for bonding VERSATEX to itself, they are prone to breakdown when subjected to a moist environment. Adhesive and sealant formulations vary with each manufacturer. Performance is dependent upon the application.
