And by all technical standards, it's not a single "knot," nor is it a single "Hitch" on its own...I don't think. I would classify it as a rigging system, similar to a "Truckers' Hitch," for instance. 4 Days Camping and Fishing in a CRAZY Unexplored area of the Canadian Rocky Mountains! We make our way to a 100FT waterfall in hopes of Descending it to fish the unexplored waters below! This trip was absolutely incredible. We set off hiking, camping, backpacking and fishing in a completely remote wilderness. We flyfish for cutthroat trout, and enjoy the nature sounds of the wilderness, camping under the stars. This was a catch and release fishing trip, and all the trout we caught were let go to swim another day. What to do if you fall through thin ice? Follow these simple steps for self-rescue: 1) Keep your elbows up, or walk on ice with a stick. If you fall through, this will prevent your head from going under and taking a gasp of cold water. 2) Know that you will go through cold shock. It will be hard to breathe, and you will be in a panic. Make sure you first control your breathing before trying to get out! 3) Don't try to pull yourself out; instead, perform a swimming motion with your legs. Swim forward - kicking your legs - and use that to get the majority of your body on thicker ice. 4) Keep your weight spread out. Crawl as far as you can to thicker ice. If you keep breaking through, keep performing the techniques. You have about 10 minutes of time before your body will shut down. *Some people prefer to roll. I personally don't like this option, but I demonstrated it regardless as some use it. For me, I don't want to risk falling in while on my back. Once you get to shore, make sure to seek help even if you weren't in the water long. I embark on a Fall Solo Camping and Bushcraft Trip here in Canada, where I forage and harvest Wild Chaga Tea, build a Bushcraft Ladder, and camp under a Tarp with a beautiful Campfire. I love Bushcraft survival trips like this, and try to do one every month or so. I've felt overwhelmed with constant stimulus and distractions in my life recently. So I decided to get back into nature and enjoy some time alone. I made the decision to fast for 36 hours while out there, and I wouldnt be talking or getting distracted in any other way. I don't fast often, but I have gone long periods of time without eating, most notable on a 9 day stretch while surviving in the Labrador Wilderness - so I was sort of prepared for this one mentally. Regardless, one of the things ive come to learn from it is I get very vivid dreams and seem to wake up every hour - not in torment, in fact it's a daze like state which is easy to fall back asleep, and I wake rested. But it's just something Ive found. The Fast gave me an amazing reset in my life. I will definitely be doing another trip like this! This is a fully immersive ASMR adventure, where I build a number of bushcraft projects, including a Pot hanging Tripod, Backpack Hanging Stick, Bushcraft Ladder, and even some flyfishing and crayfish catching. I built a survival earth shelter using only hand tools - my knife and pick, in one of my fav Bushcrafting camp trips. A fun day of bushcraft to say the least. I arrived on site at 9am, and the shelter was complete by 8pm. A long day of hard work. On my hike in, I spotted some shedding trees and large stones, which gave me the idea for this type of shelter. There were many downed Green pine trees as well - so I could scavenge those to aid in the build. The hardest part was moving the large boulders and getting them out of the ground. It's peak blackfly season as well, so I was getting attacked ruthlessly throughout this build - which all added to the feeling of success and accomplishment to overcome them. #bushcraft #shelter #survival

THE CONSTRICTOR HITCH might either be the MOST DANGEROUS ...OR...The MOST USEFUL knot out there. Use this one with caution, and DONT ever tie it around body parts - because it's nearly impossible to get undone. That being said, it has a number of amazing uses which I explain thoroughly. A Great knot for Camping, Prepping, Bushcraft and Survival. When tying this knot with a non-stiff rope, like paracord, especially without the inside lengths, it will bind up so tight that you'll nearly always have to cut it loose. Building a Basic Survival Shelter / Bushcraft Camp; using primitive skills to weave a hammock to sleep on, tapping a birch tree as my water source, and finally some delicious campfire cooking! **If you want to follow along my narration, please turn on Captions** This trip has a few bushcraft and primitive skills I wanted to play around with. I first aim to build a simple lean to shelter using natural materials found in the woods. However, losing light was a big challenge I faced, and ran out of time QUICK! It is a survival skill on it’s own to properly plan. Because of that time, I only built a very basic shelter - so it wouldn’t withstand any tough weather conditions - but I was eager to get on to some more fun skills - such as harvesting grass and weaving that into rope and ultimately, a makeshift hammock to sleep on. Again this task took me deep into the night, and it was so late by the time I was done, I just wanted too sleep and would make my fire and “Dinner” tomorrow morning for breakfast instead. I passed out instantly from some level of exhaustion, and though In was woken a few times by the cold, I slept a surprising amount! In addition to the tutorial aspect of the video, if you choose to use captions, I try to capture the beauty and peacefulness of the wilderness with cinematography. These trips are as much about having fun and testing my survival and bushcraft skills as they are about sharing techniques, and creating something beautiful. A winter camping / Survival / Bushcraft trip with no tent or sleeping bag. This is a solo camping trip, where I build a Bushcraft Shelter, enjoy some campfire cooking, and build an amazing (automatic) fire! All while using only my Bucksaw, Axe, and Bushcraft Knife. This one is a filmed in a cinematic no talking ASMR style but with words to describe what I'm doing, and to teach and pass on knowledge. Temperatures got way colder than I expected, I had to utilize a Self feeding fire, also known as an automatic fire, and build a primitive shelter in order to make it through the night. It was fairly sleepless I must say, but I had expected that. I cooked a delicious campfire meal of a chicken on a spit. Of course, with the ASMR eating style and some mouthwatering closeups! I consider this one of my most relaxing camping videos. The self feeding fire worked amazingly. It was actually my first time attempting it, and I was pleasantly surprised. I was prepared to keep feeding it all night but it burned pretty much on its own. I show a variety of techniques for winter primitive survival, and explain the theory behind each of them. Cold feet are one of the most common issues you'll face if you're an outdoor enthusiast. I've found there are a few misconceptions and mistakes to avoid or they could mistakenly make your feet colder! The best part is you can usually apply some of the systems covered in this video to optimize your existing boots to keep your feet from getting colder. While the mistakes are common in general winter applications, they can especially be applied to Hiking, Snowboarding, Snowshoeing, Skiing, Snowmobiling, Backcountry Camping and most importantly, in prepping and survival scenarios. Heres the Recipe: 2 Cups of Flour 1 Tbsp of Instant Yeast 1 Tbsp of Salt 1 Tbsp of Sugar 1 Tbsp of Olive Oil 1 Tsp of Garlic Powder 3/4 Cup Warm Water. THATS IT! You can pre-mix all the dry ingredients if you want and then just add the oil and warm water on site. I didn't have a lid, or a dutch oven with me. So I improvised and used a Rock Lid! Learn how to get back in a canoe / Flip and Re-Enter if you find it takes on water or capsizes. Used in deep water when your alone / solo! Large and Heavier Canoes are hard to flip. This is a technique that's a bit easier to manage. This is good for canoeing for beginners or advanced canoeists. It's used if you find yourself far from shore and cant swim to it. Since this canoe is about 16'6 long - the Capistrano Flip Method doesn't really work for me. In this video I show how to empty a swamped canoe, flip it over, and then get in - all in deep water. What's the difference between a Dry Wood Saw Blade and a Green Wood Saw Blade? I show a side by side comparison, sawing through both Dry and Green / Wet wood with each type of blade. I also show how to change your saw blade in the field, for use with the Bear Essentials Bucksaw. In summary: If you're Exclusively cutting live / green wood, then go for the Green Wood Blade. But if you plan on doing either just dead wood, or a bit of both, then the Drywood blade seems to be your best bet!
