Take a shot for each time I say fun. I can't stop saying it. This gun makes me smile. It's just such a pleasure to shoot. Did I mention that it's fun? Finally, we get to the true start of the Naughto-5s - the Winchester 1911 Self Loading Shotgun. With Remington's Model 11 dominating the market, Winchester needed to respond - and had to evade Browning's patents to do so. While often maligned, the Winchester 1911 did offer several novel features - but did also fell short in many important ways. This is the Remington Autoloading Shotgun - later known as the Remington Model 11. The Model 11 may "just" be an Auto 5 clone, but it played a very important role in the popularization of autoloading shotguns in general. Welcome to the first installment in my series on the long recoil shotguns inspired by the Browning Auto 5. In this video, we'll touch on what this series of videos will entail, cover the basics of the Auto 5 itself, and bust some clays with a Superlightweight 12 gauge. Before I dive into more shotgun videos, I wanted to make a few touching on some basic terminology. In this video, we'll go over shotgun chokes. There are lots videos discussing how shotguns chokes work - but few of them give a technical demonstration (which I think is important). So, with much yapping, let's look at how shotgun chokes work, using a polychoked Auto 5 as our guinea pig. As discussed, more modern screw-in choke systems work in the same basic way - but the way the polychoke constricts makes it easy to visualize how chokes actually work. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms. I put together my response to Wendigoon's AR15 history video, which I believe gets a lot wrong - including it's central thesis. TLDW, the Army did stall and obstruct the AR15's adoption, but they had good reasons to do so. DOD rushed the adoption of the rifle, and the had good reasons to do so. The rifle did have problems early on as all rifles do. However, these happenings do not support a narrative of "sabotage", and really don't even paint a cohesive picture of negligence. I use the M16 Review Panel's report and The Black Rifle to break down the thesis, and show why the evidence Wendigoon presents for this thesis falls into one of two buckets: either misunderstanding the details to the point of being wrong, or being outright wrong. Links to these documents: https://odysee.com/THE_BLACK_RIFLE_M16_RETROSPECTIVE:c https://thecoltar15resource.com/report-of-the-m16-rifle-review-panel-1-jun-1968/ Long story short, I felt compelled to make this response because I've spent enough time researching this stuff that I feel obliged to fight the spread of this sort of fuddlore misunderstanding of the AR15's history as much as possible. Hopefully, the video strikes you as going beyond simply nitpicking small details (I made that video too, it was four hours long,, you can watch it here: https://youtu.be/Q2NjB-vcv3E), and instead feels like an address of the core misunderstanding found in Wendigoon's presentation. A little more context/thoughts that didn't make it into the video are listed here: https://x.com/NaviGoBoom/status/1808966660969410702

This is the Amigo Verde - a 3D printable CETME L build. I've been working on it slowly over the past couple years. I think it's pretty great. You can beta test it, if you'd like. Message Ivan on the rocketchat. I'll post more videos and details over the next week or so. Kits will be available on MAF, and are pretty cost effective compared to what kits and barrels cost separate! I've been excited to share this one with you all for a while. One cool thing here is how much better the roller delay action deals with heat compared to printed AR uppers - not having a gas tube jet heat back into the upper helps a lot! -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms. This video has no point and is satire. If you're curious about 10mm's story, this guy has a great first-hand account of how things went down: https://gundigest.com/article/10mm-handguns-and-the-fbi TLDR: 10mm wasn't nerfed because of weak wrists or whatever, the FBI only ever were interested in the weak load, and 40SW was designed to allow that same performance in less overall length - because the gun the FBI settled on for 10mm was bulky and heavy. Anyway - to illustrate some of this story, I review a soda pop in 40 and 10, comparing performance and musing about things. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms. Testing out a couple experimental changes to the KF5 - one being the paddle mag release, the other being the flangleless upper. The paddle release will likely be included with the initial release of the KF5, but the flangleless upper will take a lot of testing - if the idea doesn't hold up it won't be released. The flanges offer important stiffness to the parts, and it remains to be seen how they perform without them. But I figured I'd share this experimental version to show you guys some of the behind the scenes testing that goes into these things. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms. A long form video on the 3011. Super long video, but here's my test of the Biden's Bane. TLDW, when printed in PLA and running a midlength, 16", M4 profile barrel: for 30-60 rounds it holds up great, between 60 and 90 rounds it experiences point of impact shift due to overheating the upper receiver, it can be pushed to 180 rounds (and beyond) but will have lost any semblance of accuracy by that point. Video of the shooting starts at: 12:31 Lots of caveats with a test like this - I explain most of them at the beginning, but in general there's many factors that go into a test like that that can skew things one way or the other - by no means is this test meant to be authoritative on what 3D printed AR15 uppers are capable of, just a single data point for reference. Printed in a better material (PLA is really the worst possible material for this), using a lighter weight barrel, brass case ammo (steel case doesn't take as much heat with it when it leaves), environmental temps, even the amount of gun cleaning oil on the barrel before the test starts (I cleaned all oil off of this barrel with degreaser to ensure it wouldn't get all smoky and make it hard to see the gun) - all these factors can have a big impact on how long a printed upper will hold up, so take this video (and any video that presents itself as being authoritative on this subject) with a grain of salt. Now, for those of you still reading this, bear in mind the Biden's Bane is very nearly 100% printed - it has a cheap stainless steel bushing to isolate gas tube heat from the upper receiver itself, and is otherwise printed. There's certainly room to improve things further, and I touch on some of these at the end of the video. Much more testing and fun to come, but for a PLA AR15 upper (a feat most dismissed as impossible for even a couple shots), 30-60 rounds of accurate fire is nothing to scoff at. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms. Magdumping the tiny Amigo Grande. It had been raining all week, so I broke out the tracers to have a little fun. I get comments a lot about why I place my finger the way I do on certain guns with certain triggers - here's the long story long. Sometimes people are pretty rooted in some idea that despite vast variation in hands, grip, and triggers, there's only one correct way to put a finger on a trigger - and while that might hold true for them and their limited experience with various setups, a look at many different shooters reveals this "myth" isn't quite all it's cracked up to be. Join me for a long-winded explanation of why trigger finger placement does matter from a mechanical standpoint, an explanation of what that means for me, and some musings on this topic in general. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms. Ripping through a mag with the KF5. Adding the GSL tri-lug flash hider and the scout light to the end of the gun helps keep muzzle rise down. Magdumping the new Magpul 29 round MP5 Drum in one of my KF5s - it had an interesting failure in this video: I did three full drums and each time it had what I guess is technically a failure to feed but not a jam. This is the Kleiner Freund (KF5) - a 3D printable MP5 build that uses AR15 fire control parts. This build is much cheaper than an MP5 (or even the knockoffs/clones), since it only uses the core parts of an MP5 and substitutes better, more reliable (and cheaper) parts for the rest. The scope used is a course far too large for an MP5, but all my red dots are tied up on other builds. Anyway, in this initial testing, I'm using a 3D printed ejector - while it does work with OEM ones, OEM ejectors are very expensive and hard to find - I'm working to get steel ones made, but in the mean time, a 3D printed one does the trick. Obviously, development is still ongoing - the magazine well needs tweaked, and the ejection port is massively oversized so that it can act as an inspection port (so that I can see the inner workings without taking the gun apart). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms. I'll continue to post short testing videos on Youtube as long as I can, but certain "more interesting" videos will have to go on Utreon, and the ability to ask specific questions and get specific answers will have to remain there as well. I'm planning on doing Q&As where subscribers can ask questions, focused feedback on troubleshooting, and some other perks for those willing to support me on Utreon - more to come on that. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms. Banging a little steel with the Plastikov 103. More snow footage (yay!) - this time, running one of my 3011 builds with a slightly modified version of the Daikon Defense extendable brace. Put some rounds through the Amigo today - temps are hanging around zero, but the gun ran great. Targets were a 2ftx3ft steel plate (the louder ringing target) and a 1ftxft plate (doesn't ring as loud) at 75 yards - the Amigo has no trouble smacking them, and with the 3D printed Spuhr-style stock and a honking muzzle brake, the in-line recoil is very manageable. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms. Apparently shooting guns in the cold is hot right now? Anyway, here's a little montage of some shooting I snuck in between waves of a blizzard. Long story short, a fella on Twitter decided that there was simply *no way* the Amigo Grande could withstand 60 rounds without a cooling break - surely, it would melt into a pool of goo, crack, and maim the shooter! Well, turns out he was very wrong - as prior tests have shown, the Amigo holds zero even as it gets piping hot, a testament to the solid barrel mount and benefit of a free-floated barrel. Luckily, the fella from Twitter was a good sport and donated 100 bucks to FPC for being proven wrong. I couldn't find any information on how to do this, so I figured I'd throw together a video. If your CETME C buffer is worn out (can be compressed by hand, rattles, sticks rearward), it is a good idea to replace it. I replaced this buffer with a BlackjackBuffer CETME C buffer, which is working great so far. Basically, you just need to remove your stock, then unscrew the cap on the buffer assembly - it will be very tight because the cap was staked in place. You can undo the staking by kissing it with a drill bit, then try unscrewing the cap using some long barstock - I had to mill out the slot on my cap to 0.250" wide because the standard slot was too narrow and my bar stock kept bending. Hopefully you don't have to do this, but if you do the slot could be widened with a metal file or dremel tool if you don't have a mill. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms. After a really enjoyable development cycle, the 3011 is released! It launches with a couple remixes (that include top-covers for people who are into that sort of thing), and is a surprisingly great build - depending on how you configure it, you can have a locked breech 45ACP carbine that weighs less than a 10/22. It's a great hiking/woods walking gun, and is sure to catch the eye of anyone who isn't blinded by it's brilliance! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms. Some super slowmo testing on the Amigo Grande. Frame rate is high enough it caught the bullet in flight! A couple things can be learned here - most importantly, that the barrel is rigidly affixed to the receiver, and that harmonic wiggle is dampened quickly. You can also see that the receiver itself doesn't twist or wiggle (the handguard does have a little flex, but that's ok). Having no wiggle in the receiver ensures a long fatigue life for the receiver - which keeps things safe. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms. A simple heat deflection test with the 3D printed CETME receiver. This test aims to demonstrate two things - that the gun is capable of shooting decent groups, even when hot, as well as that the point of impact shift is minimal as the gun heats up. My scope was sighted about 2" low (I had zeroed using lightweight tracer ammo and switching to heavier steel case stuff is to blame), but the groups were very consistent. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms. Here's a little magdump through the Amigo Grande! This build is a collaborative effort that Matt L. (the host of Fuddbusters, a cool channel on youtube that demystifies 2A myths) and I started. It's a CETME C 308 parts kit inside a 3D printed receiver. That's right, full fuckin nato yeeted from a chunk of printed PLA. It is, of course, very bulky to be able to handle the recoil and keep the bolt guided straight - but it is a really cool build. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms. That's a fun way to eat up some 7.62x39. My 3D Printed RPK build is pretty unique - it's based on the Plastikov, but modified to take RPK parts. I printed the receiver, dust cover, and stock in PLA, then stained the receiver and dust cover to give it a a "fakelite" effect, and stained the stock to give it a wood effect. The stock is very interesting - it mounts to an A2 tube, looks like an RPK stock, but takes M14 folding buttplates (because the shoulder thing that goes up is wonderful for shooting prone). ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms. An extremely unusual 3D printed gun - a WW2-era Walther PPK parts kit, built out on a 3D printed frame. New frames for these guns don't exist, so I took advantage of some of the parts kits that are available to make these guns work again. I put this project on hold because the frames tend to break around 250 rounds - I think I can design some metal reinforcements later on. So, here it is set up with a brace and red dot sight - this build was really fun to shoot at 100 yards, because 32ACP is such a slow bullet and the PPK barrel is so short - bullets take a long time to hit their target. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms. We're finally running really well. Burned through 100 rounds without an issue - at this rate, I'm thinking maybe a couple aesthetic changes and then an open beta. Will need to type up some documentation, but this is a shockingly simple build. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms. A couple changes to this frame - it now takes AR15 grips, has a working safety, an integral red dot mount, and has a 1913 rail rear end for stocks and braces. I also changed the ejector geometry to make it a little more solidly mounted, and that seems to have resolved ejection issues. I do misspeak and refer to the ejector (obviously a 1911 ejector) as an AR15 ejector - this is an error. Next steps will be getting a printable folding brace/stock, and potentially exploring other magazine options. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms. With the aluminum rails, updated feed ramp geometry, updated magazine fitment, and the new stock adapter (with a red dot mount), the 3011 frame is running much better. This frame has had 100 rounds put through it with no signs of wear or damage. Next steps will be updating the frame to take AR15 grips, add a 1913 rail for rear end attachment, add a front rail for foregrips, lights, etc, and figuring out what to do to build a more reliable/stronger ejector. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms. Part Two of the 3D Printed 1911 Frame testing/development. We're on aluminum rails! Unfortunately, I reverted my changes to the location of the fire control group (from V2 to V1), so we have hammer follow and no hammer reset. Printing a V4 frame now that should correct the hammer follow and accept the aluminum rails. I put about 50 rounds on this (V3) frame today - no signs of wearing or cracking. It does have some feeding issues with the cheap magazine seen in the video - this should be fixed by moving the height of the magazine catch up a little, which frame V4 will feature. Making progress! ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms. Part Two of the 3D Printed 1911 Frame testing/development. This time, I've corrected the height of the fire control group and switched over to the carbine spec (16"+ barrel, shoulder stock). Semiautomatic fire now works! The feeding issues were due to the fact that I'm still using plastic rails - next step is to add in aluminum rails, which will held the slide glide easily. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms. Initial testing on the 3D printed 1911 frame. I'm happy with the results - this frame lasted 20 rounds on all plastic rails, which is pretty impressive. Semiautomatic fire won't work on this frame because the fire control group sits too low - the hammer never gets reset by the slide. Next version should fix the hammer reset issue. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm Ivan - a fella who works to document and record the history and technical background of the development of homemade firearms.
