This Prussian Customs Union allowed for the Industrialisation and the emergence of trains, Rise of Prussia, Bismarck, and the eventual German power that could become independent in the Concert of europe. Russia has always been a rather poor country. From it's start under Ivan the Terrible in 1547 to Serfdom. Russian elites kept the common people economically impoverished. On top of that Russia's geography is large and difficult to transport stuff with. meaning trade was limited. During the industrial revolution Russia did not develop under capitalism. Laissez-faire capitalism has limited results and could not compete with foreign competitors. They then attempted the Emancipation Reform of 1861 to free the serfs and lift Russian peasants out of poverty. But they forced peasants to pay for the land, making any extra income often worthless. The Communist Revolution caused another great crisis but Russia did develop during its early socialist period. The Command Economy worked to reduce friction in the economy. During the Great Depression they caught up with the west in political and military power. However, after Stalin corruption began to set in and in the 1960s-1980s Cold War Russia slowly declined in economic growth. Eventually by 1989 the Breakup of the Soviet Union began. Communism was replaced with an oligarchy and feudalism. Which was the old communist system with a hint of capitalism and feudalism. When Putin came to power their economy became more and more corrupt and russia is now in a downward spiral economically as its economy begins to age and is unable to import replacement parts due to sanction. The Mongol Empire started in modern-day Mongolia, under the leadership of Temüjin. At age 9 he lost access to his father's crown and vowed to regain his family's position within the Mongol People. When Temüjin was 40 years old he got his revenge and was crown The Great Khan, or Genghis Khan. From there he expanded his empire into Central Asia, Siberia, and China. He created a system where people were promoted based on competence, instead of personal connections. This made his Mongol Government far more effective than those of other countries at the time. At the same tie his armies were on horseback and could outrun almost any enemy. His son Ögedei Khan succeeded him and continued the Mongol's conquests into Eastern Europe, Iran, the Middle East, and China. After his death Güyük Khan began consolidating the empire and his successor Mongke began the centralisation of Mongol power. The Mongol ruler focussed on conquering China. And those Mongols living in China slowly integrated into the Chinese population and remained itself the Yuan Dynasty. With the focus on China the other Mongols declared independence and in 1266 the Mongol Empire became 4 countries: Mongol Ulus, The Golden Horde, The Chagatai, and the Ilkhanate. The Yuan Dynasty was eventually defeated because they were seen as foreign invaders who took more from the people than they were offering them. And were faced with a large uprising. And the Yuan Dynasty retreated back to Mongolia. The Golden Horde conquered most of Eastern Europe, from Poland and Hungary all the way to modern-day Russia. Europe wasn't a prize worth taking for them and as a result the Mongols were stuck in Eastern Europe fighting amongst each other, until the Russians defeated them. The Ilkhanate did not have enough grassland in Iran and the Middle East, which limited their power. As a result the Arabs, Persian, and Byzantines were able to defeat this Mongol Horde. And the Ilkhanate slowly integrated into Central Asian societies as guns made their bows obsolete. They were eventually conquered by the Chinese Empire. We will look at the creation of China. We start by looking at the Yellow River Civilization and how they spread to the Yang Tze River Basin. How the people formed a unified ethnic group called the Han Chinese. From there we look at the creation of the very first dynasty, the Shang Dynasty. How it was replaced with the Zhou Dynasty, and how it dissolved into the Warring States Period. We then focus on the start of the Chinese Iron Age. And how it allowed the State of Qin to grow into one of the powerful states at the end of the Warring States Period. We then follow the life of Qin Shi Huang, or Ying Zheng, how he was called at birth. We talk about how they conquered the other 6 states of the Zhao, Wei, Qi, Han, Chu, and Yan. And we look at how the Qin state unified China under the Qin Dynasty. From there we look at how they unified Chines language, Chinese writing, and Chinese bureaucracy. And how it became an early centralized state. After Qin the Chinese Empire collapsed and we see the emergence of the Han Dynasty. Taiwan started their economic development as a Japanese colony. In the late 19th century industrialisation and early 20th century industrialisation. When Taiwan became independent it became a state capitalist nation. They slowly grew their economy through small and medium sized businesses. Through the 1950s 1960s 1970s Taiwan focussed on agriculture, electrical components, and light industry. Then in the 1980s 1990s 2000s and 2010s Taiwan developed a high-tech industry focussing on advanced computer chips. And today Taiwan is a rich country. But how did Taiwan become rich? And why did Taiwan become wealthy? Credits - Research: Mrs Scope - Audio: Seb. But by 1943, the tide of war had turned: The Soviet Union had pushed back at Moscow, Sint Petersburg, and Stalingrad. While the British had beaten back the German air raids and pushed the Axis powers out of Africa. So the leaders of the major allied powers came together to discuss the state of the world after the WW2 had ended. Stalin of the Soviet Union, Roosevelt of the USA, and Churchill of the United Kingdom discussed creating the United Nations, the D-Day invasion, and dividing Germany up into 4 occupation zones. Because Germany. Will. be. Divided. But that was not all. Over the course of World War 2, it became apparent to the Allied forces that Germany committed atrocities on a massive scale. The night raids, the forced deportations, the mass genocide. There was only 1 question on everybody’s minds: how do you punish acts so evil?
