3D printed speakers can sound so good! Ad: Get an exclusive NordVPN deal here https://nordvpn.com/diyperksvpn it’s risk-free with Nord’s 30-day money-back guarantee! Want to build these speakers for your own gaming or TV setup? The 3D printable files are available for $29.99 - https://payhip.com/b/dhJrS Parts list: (Note that some links may earn me a commission if you purchase an item through them) It's approx $500 to build a pair (so $250 per speaker), which is good value when you think that a Sonos or Bose will set you back at least that much only instead of getting a single unit you get a stereo pair with better audio quality to boot! Subwoofer: Tang Band W3-1876S USA: https://www.parts-express.com/Tang-Band-W3-1876S-3-Mini-Subwoofer-264-909 EU: https://rkn3.net/c/?si=14570&li=1627332&wi=363790&dl=en%2Ftang-band-w3-1876s.html Midtone Driver: Tang Band W3-1364SA USA: https://www.parts-express.com/Tang-Band-W3-1364SA-3-Bamboo-Cone-Driver-264-844 EU: https://rkn3.net/c/?si=14570&li=1627332&wi=363790&dl=en%2Ftang-band-w3-1364sa.html Digital Signal Processor: https://ebay.us/i8U1fC Amplifier: https://ebay.us/ZWlpBh TWEETERS are optional, as the midtone driver + DSP sounds great on its own, but for the best quality a good budget tweeter is the SB Acoustics SB26STCN, which is my favourite overall due to its pricing, but a premium option is a Scanspeak D2608/913000 Tweeter. It has a bit more ‘sparkle’ and refinement, but this will ONLY be appreciated if the final speakers are given a signal from a high-quality output source like a dedicated DAC. If you want to print the baffles, the recommended magnet size is 10mm diameter round neodymium magnets, with 5mm depth maximum. Fixtures and fittings: 40pcs M3 threaded inserts (for the speaker drivers) 40pcs 3mm x 8mm countersunk m3 black screws (for the speaker drivers) 200pcs Self-tapping 2mm diameter screws, 10mm length max (build platform screws) 24pcs 3mm diameter self-tapping screws (amplifier screws, DSP chamber, midtone chamber base) 2x step-down voltage regulators, 5v output (for powering the DSP and fan) 2x 1000uf capacitor (add across the output of the regulator to reduce interference) 2x Power Adapters (100w ideally, each. A low cost option is old laptop power adapters) 1x roll of 16awg wire Recommended glue is CT1 - it sticks to PLA well enough and doesn't set too quickly allowing the whole speaker to be screwed together before it begins to dry. This allows any spill over to be wiped away (use an old brush to get inside the air guide etc). Sets with some amout of flexibility. Readily availabe in the UK but not sure about equivalents for other territories. Visit the Forum or Discord server to see what the community recommends for each region. SAFETY NOTES ON PLASTER OF PARIS: If you're stupid with it, it can be dangerous. NEVER put your hands/feet/whatever into plaster of paris EVER. It can suddenly set without warning, creating a lot of heat in the center, so you'll get burned or worse. Because of this never leave a batch of wet plaster of paris in reach of children or pets. Wearing a mask is recommended to not breathe in any dust, and goggles to stop it splashing into your eyes. Stay safe people!

Regarding the use of acetone, it's not the most dangerous chemical in the world (it's used in nail varnish remover for example) but it's always a good idea to wear suitable gloves when handling it and be in a well ventilated environment during its use so you don't breathe in the fumes. It's also worth noting that the vapours themselves are very flamable, so keep sparks and open flames well away from your work area during use. Again, this is why it's important to be in a well ventilated environment.

I'm in an experimental mood and thought I'd try building a modern bellows system! Will it work? Let's find out! Also, head to http://squarespace.com/diyperks to save 10% off your first purchase of a website or domain using offer code PERKS I hope you guys enjoyed this crazy build! It's been a wild journey trying to get this video released - firstly with the delays caused by the ideas that didn't work, and then ultimately by a HARD DRIVE FAILURE! Literally ALL the footage in this video was lost, and it was only thanks to some great data recovery fellows that you're seeing this at all. Backup system implemented now, fyi ;) because of these delays, this is actually quite an old video now (like 1 year) but I'm glad it's able to see the light of day as I think the final result is SUPER COOL! In hind sight I may not have started this project of perseverance, but it taught me such a lot in terms of which projects to make to show you guys and how experimental I can ultimately risk being. I know that basically none of you will make this, but the methodology ultimately settled upon is interesting and might have many more use cases. Either way it makes for interesting watching, so I hope you all enjoy it! ~Matt

If a speaker has 8ohms, and you wire 6 of them up in series, the resistance will be 48ohms (6 x 8 = 48), which is too much for an amplifier. Wiring them in parallel results in 1.4Ohms (8 / 6 = 1.333) which is too little for the amplifier. So, what I did was divide the 6 speakers into 3 sets of 2, and wire each set of 2 together in series for 16ohm. I then connected these 3 16ohm sets in parallel to result in an overall resistance of 5.4Ohms, which should be within a typical expected range for an amplifier (4 to 8 ohms).

Today we'll be building a Bluetooth speaker! Visually it looks fantastic with a lovely wooden front and a concrete outer shell. This concrete not only looks great, but it helps audio quality too, as the sound produced by the speaker is very solid and confident due to the lack of resonance. In this video I'll be showing you how to build a beautiful desktop PC out of an old damaged laptop for peanuts (aka, not much money). This is a great way to re-use old hardware for cheap, and it's a fantastic creative outlet. Just how bright can a giant LED panel be? I have to satisfy my curiosity, and this thing blows everything out of the water! To those wondering how I got the outdoor running around shots, I used this battery which can deliver a whopping 240A! That's just under 3kw of 'tricity: http://amzn.to/2iMH3Qs This video is essentially a 'bonus video'. It's not a follow-along project, and it's not particularly unique (I've done a fair few LED panel videos already) - I made it to satisfy my curiosity and use up those LED strips! The top variable resistor (near the button) sets how broad the range is, so set this afterwards to get the low voltage point at low low battery power, anticlockwise lower, clockwise higher. Low voltage should be about 10v when the batteries have no load connected. The clips playing on the screen were from the trailers for Planet Earth 2 and Assassin's Creed.

Laptop users generally have to just put up with having a single main screen, but thanks to upcycling we can build a DIY portable secondary screen for laptops using recycled parts to keep the cost as low as $25! It not only performs really well, but it looks incredibly unique - it's a piece of solid industrial tech this one! In this video I explore the possibility of making DIY sound absorption panels on a budget, later comparing them to much more expensive acoustic foam. The results are pretty amazing! There have been many comments pointing out that my test only measures transmission and not reflection, so is essentially unsuitable for my initial testing goal. While this is partly true, testing reflection is pretty difficult to do in a home environment, and the only way to do it that I can think of would be to spend a long time in the middle of a field with a powerful speaker and mic rig, which is really beyond the scope of what I was prepared to do for the video. My tests are not rendered pointless however - it would do no good to have only measured reflection, as the thinnest lightest material would have won (like foam), as nothing would have bounced back. Reflection and transmission need to be tested together to measure how much sound passes through, and how much sound is reflected back - this should give an indication of how much sound is absorbed by a given material. Regardless, only testing the transmission doesn't affect the outcome of the project at all, as any sound waves reflected by the panels themselves would have theoretically bounced off the wall anyway - again this is why reflection wasn't tested, as it doesn't matter so much for a panel setup (though would matter very much for a vocal booth). Open to hear any thoughts about it though! Keep up the great discussion. :)

In this video we're going to be recycling some broken laptop screens to make a fake window light for some cosy evening illumination! FAQ: LED_EN (the 'on button') is sometimes called EN, ENA, BL_ON, LEDON, BL_EN, or ENAB PWM may also be PWM_1 VLED (12v) may also be called VCCS, or LED_VCCS. If you can't find it try and find the fuse instead and solder to that. If you can't find a pad it may be because it's referenced with a number instead (R110 for example), with its full name given in a key somewhere else on the PCB (sometimes framed by a white box). If any of you find some other names for the above pads please let me know and I'll add them to the list! Want a free audiobook? Template files available here ($7): https://sellfy.com/p/Wl7S/ In this video I go through the processes involved in making the Spectrum Dock - a headphone stand with a difference. Not only does it look splendid, but it also makes for a great light feature with its three colour-changing light bands. The whole thing was made with a CNC router from http://inventables.com. It's definitely worth checking out if you're after a CNC yourself - this one is excellent value for money! Although they did send me the X-Carve for review, they aren't sponsoring this video and the opinions expressed in it are my own. Design ©2015 DIYPerks

In this video I'll be showing, in overview, the design of my super-low-noise self-contained ORTF microphone rig. It features superb stereo, a built in recorder, triple shock mounting, and of course a noise floor that is so low that you can record the beat of ones own heartbeat in a quiet enough environment. Impressive to say the least!!! AudioBlocks link: http://audioblocks.com/DIYPerks_0417 And the Rode NT1-a (for those interested): http://amzn.to/2BsJkwI In this video I'll be showing you how I made a portable studio microphone that has an extremely low self noise and a wonderful stereo soundscape. The quality of this thing is insane! Here's the preamp schematic: http://sound.whsites.net/project66.htm Video sponsored by Audioblocks. http://ablocks.co/x/abdiyperks0915

Here's the amp we'll be using Amazon: https://amzn.to/2LTNccl eBay (ships globally): http://rover.ebay.com/rover/1/711-53200-19255-0/1?icep_ff3=2&pub=5575117832&toolid=10001&campid=5337735721&customid=&icep_item=371789863964&ipn=psmain&icep_vectorid=229466&kwid=902099&mtid=824&kw=lg In this video we'll be making a wireless bluetooth-enabled amplifier so that we can put old bookshelf speakers to good use! Not only is the sound quality fantastic, but it can also go super loud! It's also quite easy to build, and doesn't require any special tools - you can get away with just a hammer, nail, and a screwdriver if needed. Seriously! Full parts list (includes international purchasing links): https://docs.google.com/document/d/1_QFMFvOnSVxPGSobcSUu6EKzrBZ9FB-dHIpLOE9gW3Y Happy building! Oh, by the way, here's the note about the little switches: These switches change the gain mode of the amp. If they're both on, the amp can reach insane(er) volume levels. However, to hit these volume levels without distortion, the amp needs 25v, which is more than our batteries can provide. The amp is loud enough with them off, and it also means that the signal to noise ratio is MUCH improved, so I don't really recommend messing with them.

In this video I take a look at how important colour rendering is, and also try out an LED that could open up the possibility of some pretty exciting DIY lighting projects! If you'd like to buy the LED I tested in the video, here's the link: http://store.yujiintl.com/collections/frontpage/products/bc-series-cob-400hs?variant=488243517&utm_source=YouTube&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=DIYPerks They have smaller (cheaper) 50w versions too (in the emitter category): http://store.yujiintl.com/?utm_source=YouTube&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=DIYPerks And here's some very in-depth information about CRI (it's worth a read!): http://www.yujiintl.com/high-cri-led-lighting?utm_source=YouTube&utm_medium=referral&utm_campaign=DIYPerks I guess this is a 'sponsored' video, as Yuji did send me a review sample at my request, but the views in the video are my own and I have received no money from Yuji to 'sell up' the product - I just happen to really like it as it does such a good job! Just thought I'd make this clear so you guys know what went on behind the scenes.

Here's how to make a super-bright LED light panel. It's equivalent to a 1000w incandescent light bulb, and it's super useful for video work as it has a daylight colour temperature and doesn't use PWM for dimming.
