This ship finds itself at the center of almost every crime the DPRK has committed in the region. It was North Korea’s primary asset in crime - a true spy ship - shrouded in mystery and notoriety for most of its life. When DPRK tried to repaint its controversial past by turning it into a luxurious cruise ship, it turned out to be a colossal failure, earning itself the nickname of the 'least luxurious cruise ship in the world by many. This video is about an infamous spy-cum-passenger cruise ship and a dark chapter in the Japan-North Korea relationship that made this ship invincible in Japanese waters. ------------ Check out the channel of my narrator, Alec Belmore: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsSRyDvTYmbcqEAK0-0TGBw ------------- Follow SideNote on - Twitter: http://twitter.com/sidenoteyt Instagram: http://instagram.com/sidenoteyt Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SideNote-103440091333209/ For Business Enquiries: [email protected] All links are here: https://linktr.ee/sidenote ---------------- I DO NOT AUTHORIZE ANYONE TO TRANSLATE MY VIDEOS INTO A DIFFERENT LAGUAGE AND UPLOAD THEM ON THEIR CHANNEL. Between 1880 and 1977, the presidency of the US came with its own yacht which was primarily meant for leisure and taking some time off the claustrophobic tensions of the White House. Presidents used them for entertaining guests, building relationships, and cracking sensitive deals away from media scrutiny. These vessels hosted legendary world leaders, witnessed some of the most iconic moments of American history, created several scandals along the way - before they were abruptly decommissioned, sold off to private owners, got caught up in legal battles, and then left abandoned to die a slow death. This video is about America’s Presidential Yachts and their rather sad demise from the American presidency. ------------ Check out the channel of my narrator, Alec Belmore: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCsSRyDvTYmbcqEAK0-0TGBw ------------ Select images of Sequoia courtesy of Eugene Kaspersky: https://www.flickr.com/photos/e_kaspersky/ Select footage countesy of CBS Evening News USS Potomac Trip footage: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-AhkjvtP0lc ------------- Follow SideNote on - Twitter: http://twitter.com/sidenoteyt Instagram: http://instagram.com/sidenoteyt Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/SideNote-103440091333209/ For Business Enquiries: [email protected] All links are here: https://linktr.ee/sidenote ---------------- I DO NOT AUTHORIZE ANYONE TO TRANSLATE MY VIDEOS INTO A DIFFERENT LAGUAGE AND UPLOAD ON THEIR CHANNEL. Two men - Steve Rothstein and Jacques Vroom bought these passes to used them to an extent that it ultimately killed the scheme. The party had a grandeur never seen before in the world's recorded history. It had delicious food from the world's best restaurant, exquisite drinks, luxurious accommodations, medieval European style decorations, and more importantly - the party had the most decorated guestlist - heads of states from 65 different countries, emperors, kings and queens, princes and princesses, sheiks, sultans, and business figures of all kinds from 5 different continents. The venue of the event was not some ancient castle or a seven-star hotel, instead, everything was organized from scratch, in the middle of a desert, by building plastic tents. The cost of all of this? Not a million dollars; Not a billion dollars; this party almost cost a dynasty. It proved to be a stepping stone for the rise of the Iranian revolution and the fall of the Iranian Monarchy that changed the country forever. ------------------------------- Thanks to my friend Alec for narrating my videos. The Island is only 9.8 km2 in land area and around it, runs the 12.8 km long MH-185. Since the Highway is a circular one, it has no starting or ending point, leads to nowhere and doesn’t connect to any other highways. In the 1890s, when Automobiles had started to get popular in the country, some people attempted to bring cars to the Island, alienating the residents with their noise and disrupting the island's quiet, contemplative way of life. Several residents of the island complained that a doctor's car scared their horses and caused carriage accidents, and these complaints quickly prompted the ban on all motor vehicles. Since then, other than a handful of emergency and utility vehicles, no cars or trucks are allowed on the island and no motorized vehicles appear on M-185. For public transportation, the Island has horses - around 50 of them for 460 permanent residents. People bring 600 more horses to accommodate the peak tourism season in the summer when the island population swells to more than 15,000. Bike rentals are extremely big business on the Island with 10,000 bikes in use at any time in the summer. Naturally, Bike theft is the biggest crime on the island with 'Drunk Biking' popular among regular pub-goers. In the name of emergency vehicles, The Island has an Ambulance and a Firetruck. In the winter months, the Mackinac Island Police is allowed to patrol the Island in snowmobiles and roadside litter is picked up using a horse-driven wagon. In 1933, M-185 became a Highway, and M-185 designation was assigned to it for the first time. It became the only state highway in the nation where motor vehicles are banned.

Camouflage Passports have a unique purpose and they have been successful in fulfilling it. People carry these in order to fake their nationality in emergency situations. These passports are made in the name of countries that no longer exist or in the name of parts of countries that don't hold the rights to issue a passport. This video is narrated by John Swan. Check out his channel here -- https://www.youtube.com/user/lapisgamingofficial/videos --------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow the channel on these platforms to get updates about new uploads Twitter - https://twitter.com/sidenoteYT Instagram - https://instagram.com/sidenoteYT Email - [email protected] --------------------------------------------------------------------------- Visuals and Music used in this video are copyright free, CC, CC2.0 or used with permission Select footage courtesy of Pixabay and videvo (https://www.videvo.net/) ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hello. I make short-doc/informative videos on the most interesting, weirdest and unusual stories of the world. Subscribe to watch more. -------------------------------------------------------------------- In order to get a passport, you need to belong to a country - which may seem like a pretty normal thing but not everyone in this world enjoys this privilege. Around 12 million people in the world are "stateless" which means they don't belong to any country. They can't cross international borders to travel to a country unless they obtain Refugee travel documents. Furthermore, just because you hold a passport issued by a country doesn't automatically make you a citizen of that nation. Latvia issues non-citizen passports to individuals who are not citizens of Latvia but their families have resided in the area since the Soviet era. People born in outlying possession of United States - American Samoa and Swains Island - are united states national and not united states citizens. They carry US passports but are not allowed to vote in federal or any state elections. Common people in North Korea aren't allowed to have passports even though they are the citizen of the nation. Among all rules and anomalies of the colorful world of passports, there are more than 200 government bodies from 195 recognized sovereign countries in this world that can issue passports of different kinds to their people. Apart from that, the European Union has got a list of 180 passports that are fictional, mostly intended for fun and don't carry any value. This includes "Passport for Alaska" to "Passport for Texas" to "World Passport" for everyone. On the same list, there's a section for "Camouflage passport", and this is probably the strangest of all. Unlike others, this passport isn't intended for fun and is designed to fool the holder into believing that the passport is, in fact, a real one. It looks pretty normals from inside and outside, follows all basic guidelines but there is a basic flaw - the country it says it's issued from doesn't exist. So, clearly this passport can't be used to cross borders but still, hundreds of people around the world carry such passports with them while traveling overseas. The purpose is to hide the real nationality of the traveler and provide false identification to be used in extreme emergency situations where revealing the real passport and hence nationality could be imprudent, dangerous or bring unwelcome attention Today, camouflage passports are mainly sold online in name of more than two dozen little-known countries that no longer exist or have changed their name. Mostly, these are former colonies that changed their name on independence like, or use the names of places or political subdivisions that exist within a real country but have never issued or cannot issue passports. The motive is to sound familiar but not too familiar in deceiving a customs, immigration or police officer into believing that a bearer is a person from a small, unimportant, and far away country that is not an enemy, or, in a terrorist situation, that the bearer is not a potentially high-value hostage. In simple words - a not very interesting man from a not very interesting country.

Because of the difference in USDA regulations and EU regulations on how eggs should be processed before the sale, the eggs produced in the UK become so different from US ones that, it would be illegal to sell British eggs in the US and vice verse. For the same reasons, eggs are refrigerated in the US and not refrigerated in the UK and rest of Europe - Why do some countries refrigerate their eggs and others don't? This video is narrated by John Swan. I make short-doc/informative videos on the most interesting, weirdest and unusual stories of the world. So if you subscribe to my channel, it'll be a great help to me. Music - Todd Siesel, "time (if and when) https://soundcloud.com/todd-siesel/time-if-and-when ------------------------------------------------------------------------- At the same time, USDA has laid guidelines for how commercial eggs should be produced, processed and stored to make sure eggs remain safe for public consumption. The UK has their own regulations BUT their regulations are quite opposite to those in the US making it illegal for eggs produced in the UK to be sold in the US and those produced in the US to be sold in the UK. In the case of American eggs, USDA requires its egg producers egg farms to properly wash and sanitize their eggs before they reach consumers in order to remove any dirt and feces on the exterior of eggs. Another thing that makes British eggs and American eggs different is how they're stored. In the UK and almost everywhere in Europe, you can see eggs sitting in unrefrigerated shelves of supermarkets. The EU regulation stipulates that eggs should in general not be refrigerated before selling to the final consumer. Chilled eggs, when left outside at room temperature (during transit between supermarket and consumer's home), may sweat and form moisture on its surface facilitating the growth of bacteria and probably their ingression into the egg. The American system, on the other hand, instructs its seller to refrigerate eggs under 40*F in order to decrease the risk of Salmonella. Salmonella isn't a big problem in the UK because European farmers have been vaccinating their hens against salmonella sie 1990s and have got good results. Vaccination in the US is not a common practice.

This video answers the question of what happens when Queen Elizabeth II dies and Prince Charles becomes the new king. Operation London Bridge is a name for British protocols that must be followed when Queen passes and Prince Charles come to the throne. This video touches the important parts of this protocol as we know it. Britain has been preparing for Queen's demise since the 1960s because this event is expected to be a very important chapter in the history of the British monarchy. It's expected to be the most disrupting event of the 21st century and millions of people are going to watch it. Everything down to the last minute and quarter of an inch is being planned to give Queen Elizabeth II the grandest farewell ever. This video is narrated by Clundor. King George VI died in 1952 making Queen Elizabeth II the new Queen and she has been holding the throne since then. The Royal Palace has been preparing for queen's demise since the 1960s, under the codename of "Operation London Bridge", and there have been meetings several times a year behind closed doors to refine the details. The particulars of this grandest plan had remained a closely kept secret until Sam Knight, a journalist for The Guardian newspaper, interviewed dozens of people involved, with a promise of confidentiality. The Guardian newspaper, interviewed dozens of people involved, with a promise of confidentiality. Everything down to the last minute is carefully planned to give Queen Elizabeth a farewell of the kind the world has never seen, and most probably will never see again. In finals hours, the queen will be with her family and a team of doctors led by the queen's senior doctor, Professor Huw Thomas. He'll constantly monitor her health and also consider what information should be made public. People will be notified about queen's health at a regular interval until the last bulletin which may read something like this - "The Queen's life is moving peacefully towards its close" as it happened in case of George V. George V's doctor At BBC, a cold-war era alarm system called RATS, short for "radio alert transmission system", will be activated. Reporters and anchors have been rehearsing the death of the Queen for over 30 years, substituting the name “Mrs. Robinson”. For many years, they have performed mock storylines about the Queen Mother choking on a fishbone. These rehearsals will immediately be put into action. There is a network of blue lights, called "obit lights", installed at Britain's commercial radio stations. They are supposed to light up in event of a National catastrophe and are tested once a week. When the news of Queen's demise breaks, these lights will start flashing to alert the DJs to switch to the news in a few minutes and to play inoffensive music in the meantime. This will be the beginning of 10 days of sorrow and spectacle, which are officially numbered as D-Day, D+1, D+2...and so on till D+9. On D+1, the day after the Queen's demise, the flags will go back up, and at 11 am, Charles will be proclaimed king at the Entrée room of St James's Palace. This will be the time for Charles to go out and meet his people. A four-nation tour by the new king will immediately kick-off.

Queen's Messenger (a.k.a Silver Greyhound) is a British service that has been carrying Britain's Top Secret mail around the world for more than 500 years. Queen's Messengers (or King's Messengers) hold diplomatic passports and are excluded from regular airport checks, mail is carried in seal proof diplomatic bags and must not be opened or checked at the airport or in another country. The service was started by King Richard III and it's been working since then. #sidentote #sidenotedocu UK has near 84 Embassies and 49 Consulates according to this source - https://www.embassy-worldwide.com/country/united-kingdom/ But afterward, when I was editing this video, I came across a video by Foreign and commonwealth office which says - "the United Kingdom has 270 embassies, high commissions and consulates in 168 countries and territories" So I suppose the stats being said is very likely wrong but what you read on the screen is correct. It doesn't have a big effect on the subject of the video though. This video is narrated by Clundor. So, if you like my videos, maybe subscribe and turn the notification bell on. -------------------------------------------------------------------- For more than 5 centuries, UK has employed a group of loyal men called "King's or Queen's messengers" who have carried government’s top-secret mail and parcels around the world risking their lives and facing dangers that may sound stranger than fiction. These people wear plain clothes, travel in commercial planes sitting next to you and carry no gun, yet, this lesser-known service is dubbed as one of the most efficient and successful secretive services in the world. The service goes back as far as the 15th century when King Richard III reputedly employed a messenger to hand deliver secret documents for his monarch. Later on, Charles II, exiled in Europe, appointed four trusted men to convey messages to Royalist forces in England. When asked how they were to be identified as His Majesty's messengers, Charles II broke off four greyhounds from a silver breakfast platter familiar to royal courtiers and presented each with this token. A silver greyhound thus became the symbol of the service which has remained so to this day. This also gave the messengers a nickname of "Silver Greyhound". On formal occasions, the Queen's Messengers wear this badge from a ribbon, and on less formal occasions many messengers wear ties with a discreet greyhound pattern while working. This distinctive tie with embroidered pattern works as a pass-key and proves the identity of the messenger in situations where it's difficult to show the Queen messenger's special passport. Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations of 1961 gave Queen's messengers even more widely acceptable recognition and guaranteed diplomatic baggage a safer passage without any hindrance. Messengers carry a special "Queen's Messenger" passport that allows them to avoid regular airport checks and also provide them immunity from being detained. Mails and curious are carried in a bag closed with a tamper-proof seal and has its own diplomatic passport. This bag does not go through normal airport baggage-checks and must not be opened, x-rayed, weighed, or otherwise investigated by customs, airline security staff, or anyone else for that matter. In March 2000 Zimbabwe opened Britain's six-tonne diplomatic shipment which sparked diplomatic tensions between the two nations. Confidential mail and documents aren't the only things Queen Messengers have carried in their bags. During the world war 2, Winston Churchill received shipments of Cuban cigars by this means. Each year the Queen's pre-recorded Christmas Day message is sent in the diplomatic bag to every corner of the world. Queen's messengers, today, work under Foreign and Commonwealth Office of UK government. According to the official release of 2015, 18 messengers of age 40-70 are actively performing their duty for the government.

Nauru - An Island Country in South Pacific is in news for the bad living conditions in its Refugee Detention centers. The Island is also known for its high rate of poverty and unemployment. Only a few decades ago, the island was listed among world's richest countries while it was a major phosphate exporter but as the resources exhausted, the national systems started to fail. At some point in its history, the country became a hub of money laundering in order to generate income. The transition of this country from rags to riches and back to rags again is something you might never have heard before. This video is narrated by Clundor. I make short-doc/informative videos on the most interesting, weirdest and unusual stories of the world. So if you subscribe to my channel, it'll be a great help to me. -------------------------------------------------------------------- With only 21 square kilometers of land area - somewhat the size of LA international airport, Nauru is the smallest state in South Pacific and third smallest state in the world after Vatican City and Monaco. It's a home to some 11,000 people but long before humans discovered the island, local bird species used this island as their restroom and excreted their poop here for millions of years. Nauru was sitting on top of excrement gold and Germans were the first to find out. They started mining in this resource in 1906 under the name of "Pacific Phosphate Company". Following the world war 1, mining continued under the "British Phosphate Commission" when Nauru fell in the hands of Britain, Australia, and New Zealand. Things remained more or less the same until world war 2 and this is where the things started to change. Nauru got independence in 1968, bought the "British Phosphate Commission" and instead of fixing the damage done, it went on a full-on crazy mining streak under the locally owned "Nauru Phosphate Corporation". The people of Nauru mined A LOT, so much so that Nauru became one of the richest countries in mere a decade In 1975, the country earned the equivalent of $2.5 billion for a population of mere 7000 - more than enough to keep them satisfied for generations to come. Per capita income of Nauru reached second highest in the world, only after the oil-heaven Kuwait. Time took a turn, Island's phosphate resources depleted but countries expenditure remained the same, Nauru started borrowing money from other countries. One of the advisers convinced the president to invest in a London based musical pop band named Unit 4+2. The show closed only a few weeks after its debut costing Nauruans more than 7 million dollars in today's money. With no source of income to pay off its debts, international creditors seized Nauru's entire real estate portfolio together with its sole aircraft of Air Nauru. Nauru trust went bankrupt, virtually bankrupting entire nation. As a desperate attempt to generate income, Nauru published ads on the internet offering anyone with $20,000 the opportunity to open a bank on the island. Russian mafia saw an opportunity to seize and used Nauru’s liberal banking policies to launder over $70 billion from the former Soviet Union. At one point, Nauru used its position as a member of the United Nations to recognize independent countries like Kosovo and Abkhazia allegedly for money. Russia was reported to give Nauru US$50 million in humanitarian aid for this act. Nauru Government, however, claimed that these two things were not linked. In 2001, Nauru became a refugee detention center when the Australian government agreed to pay Nauru for temporarily housing refugees that were reaching Australia for Asylum. The Nauru camp shut down in 2008 and reopened again in 2012 with minor additions but the conditions did not improve. This time the Australian and Nauruan governments tried to keep things secret by limiting access to the Island and punishing those who would speak about the conditions inside the camps. An Iranian refugee, in 2016, lit himself on fire after he learned that he would be expected to live on the island for the next ten years.

Around the beginning of the 20th century, the world was trying to establish communication with Mars because they believed the planet was inhabited with intelligent Martian species. This all started with a misunderstanding that later grew to an obsession. That fascination has taken a new form today, Mars is still unreachable. This video is narrated by Clundor. This belief exploded particularly in the late 19th century when some English Astronomers misinterpreted the works of an Italian Astronomer Giovanni Schiaparelli, who, while observing through his early low-resolution telescope, had found a network of long straight lines on the surface of Mars. Schiaparelli had called them "canali" which is Italian for "channels", English-speaking Astronomers mistranslated it as canals, or more specifically "water canals" and after further observations proposed the idea that these canals were waterways built for irrigation by an intelligent civilization on Mars. In 1899, the famous inventor, Nicola Tesla, while investigating atmospheric radio noise using his receivers, observed repetitive signals that he later surmised might have been radio communications coming from another planet, possibly Mars.

Why brands are so protective of their signature formula or recipe. Is there really a thing like "secret formula" or it's just that you are being persuaded into believing that such a thing exists. What would happen if you steal the coca-cola secret formula? Watch this video to find out. This video is narrated by Clundor. Check-out his gaming channel here - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCq0zANl2rZi7MK8UjTadw_Q --------------------------------------------------------------------- Follow the channel on at least one of these to get updates about new uploads - Twitter - twitter.com/sidenoteYT Facebook - fb.com/sidenoteYT Instagram - instagram.com/sidenoteYT SUBSCRIBE FOR MORE Music - dbltree by Jalen Edington Link - https://soundcloud.com/jalenedington/dbltree time (if and when) by Todd Siesel Link - https://soundcloud.com/todd-siesel/time-if-and-when -------------------------------------------------------------------- Whether it be the McDonald's iconic sauce on big Mac, KFC's unique spices mixture or Coca-Cola's flagship sugar concentrate - the secret to the success of these products is believed to lie in their formula of ingredients. Because companies keep these formulas a guarded secret and no one from outside of the company can get hold of these recipes, these products, and their tastes can simply not be replicated by another brand, making them unique and thus, irreplaceable in the market. The reality is that the Coca-Cola secret formula isn't really a "secret", so spending millions of dollar to get this doesn't make sense. The exact formula is known to many people around the world and any talented chemist can recreate the formula to an extent that it's indistinguishable from the real one in a blind taste at a much lower cost. For decades, Coca-Cola has used this rumors about "secret" formula to enhance consumer perception of Coca-Cola‘s specialness. By insisting that the recipe is a trade secret coca-cola creates a mystique around the product that helps promote a certain image in the minds of customers. While what really "special" about coca-cola is its branding, the nostalgia behind its history, and its chain of distribution - which can't be copied. People may buy fake "Gucci" bags because the original ones may cost a liver and kidney but why would anyone buy a slightly cheaper coca-cola drink from a nameless brand when one can easily afford the real one? Not many people would buy something that tastes like a coca-cola drink in a Pepsi bottle either. Similarly, a newly founded "SideNote's BigMac" may have the same recipe as McDonald's but this doesn't give you the happy clown guy and the billions of dollars of marketing power.

Edward Makuka Nkoloso of Zambia had dreams to land Zambians on moon and mars beating the US and USSR in the Space race. He did everything he could with his limited resources to make his dream a reality but could he fulfill his dreams? Spoiler - Nope. #space #spacerace #spaceprogram This video is narrated by Clundor. Makuka wanted to establish a Christian ministry to the presumed "primitive" Martians for which he was sending a spaceship containing a "specially trained" 17-year-old space-girl, two cats (also "specially trained") and a missionary to Mars. He graciously warned the missionary to not force Christianity on the people of Mars if they didn’t want it. The participants of the program were called "Afronauts", a term he coined himself. To train the Afronauts, a makeshift facility was created where trainees would be rolled down a rough hill in a 200-liter oil drum to give them the feeling of weightless in both space travel and re-entry. In addition, they used a tire-swing to simulate weightlessness. The rocket, named D-Kalu, was a drum-shaped vessel made of aluminum and copper, and according to Makuka, was "space-worthy". The planned launch date was set for the 24th of October in 1964, Independence Day, but it was purportedly denied permission due to being inappropriate. Makuka went as far as asking the UNESCO (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization) for a grant of £7,000,000 in Zambian pounds to support his space program, a response to which he never got. It is also said he requested $1.9 billion from "private foreign sources".
