The Calypso was invented by German showman Bausch and Distel in 1958. The ride was thought up after the showmen had visited the US and seen the successes of the new at the time, Scrambler ride. The showmen believed that a more refined version of the ride could do well on the reemerging German fairground scene. The Trabant is one of the most iconic flat rides of all time. It was introduced in 1965 by American ride manufacturer Chance Rides. The ride was a rotating disk placed on a raisable hydraulic arm. The Carousel, merry go round, or roundabout is generally considered the original amusement ride. The modern version of the ride can be found in thousands of locations worldwide, in locations ranging from amusement parks, museums, zoos and even cruise ships. It is simply the most recognizable and significant ride ever created. On March 21st 2024 Stanley Falls Flume at Busch Gardens Tampa was operating normally. Around 1:30 pm 2 riders were loaded into a log and dispatched from the station. On August 11th 2016 Rollo Coaster at Idlewild was operating normally. Around 12:02pm a group of 4 riders were loaded into the train, 3 of the riders were children under 48”, but all were above 36” so they were allowed on the ride. The ride was dispatched from the station. About halfway through the ride the smallest of these 4 riders, a 3 year old rider was thrown from the train and to the ground next to the coaster. On July 15th 2006 around 12:05 pm Lisebergbanan was operating normally. Train 2 was loaded full of riders and dispatched from the station. As it began to climb the lift hill, train 5 pulled into the station and its lap bars opened. As riders started to exit the train, train 2 suddenly came crashing down the lift hill and into train 5. On October 27th 2023 at Happy Valley Shenzhen Bullet Coaster was operating normally. The ride was running with 2 trains. Train #1 was launched, but partway through the launch a fault occurred that caused the launch to be aborted. The train rolled partway up the first hill, but rolled backwards due to the launch being aborted. The ride fell backwards down the first hill. On March 24th 2022 Orlando Free Fall Drop Tower at Icon park was operating normally. A larger rider sat in seat #1. The ride operators visually checked all seats on the ride. After these checks were complete the ride was started. The ride climbed the 430ft tall tower and the seats tilted forward 30 degrees. With riders now facing the ground the ride dropped. As the ride reached the bottom of the tower and started to slow down the rider in seat #1 slipped under the restraint and fell to the ground where they were killed. On Friday July 8th 2011 Ride of Steel at Darien Lake was operating normally. A guest entered the red train through the exit using a wheelchair and the assistance of a family member. The guest boarded into row 11 and the rest of the train was loaded with riders from the standby line. All T bar style restraints were checked by the ride operators and the train was dispatched from the station. Little did the 32 riders on the train know that they were about to witness one of the most infamous ride accidents of all time. Around 5:38 PM on Thursday, March 6, 2014, Opa at Mt. Olympus in Wisconsin Dells, Wisconsin was operating normally. As the yellow car rounded one of the rides’s many sharp turns, witnesses heard shouting from the ride and saw a rider being ejected. The rider fell almost 17 feet onto the concrete ground and sustained multiple injuries with some of them being severe. Around 6:40pm on Friday, July 19, 2013, New Texas Giant at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington, Texas, was operating normally. As the ride proceeded into its first hill a female rider became loose from the restraint. She would end up falling nearly 75 feet, landing on the ride's 2nd tunnel where she was killed. The Hurricane was first introduced by Hrubetz in 1972. The ride was based on an older Allan Herschel design called the Saturn 6 that was first introduced in 1948. IMPORTANT: Update about Flat Ride of the Week: Flat Ride of the Week has been an integral part of this channel since its debut nearly 3 years ago. With over 50 different rides covered, the series has certainly accomplished its goal of bringing more awareness in the ride enthusiast world about flat rides. However, Flat Ride of the Week, as you know it, is being suspended indefinitely. This was an extremely hard decision to make as I generally enjoy researching and producing the series. Flat Ride of the Week has never been a very popular series for this channel. It had a strong fanbase that supported the series well, but it was never as popular as the other content I produce. Recently however, I have noticed that new episodes are getting even less views than before. In addition, when looking at my channel's overall analytics there is a sharp decline in views for my channel overall shortly after a Flat Ride of the Week episode is released. Due to this, it's simply not viable to continue producing the series at this time and production has been suspended indefinitely. On September 5th 2021 Haunted Mine drop, a drop tower ride that starts at the top of a mine shaft and drops 110ft underground, was operating normally. On Saturday I made my annual trip with family to Cedar Point's Winter Chill Out event. This year recording in most indoor areas was banned. However, I still managed to get some cool footage of outdoor areas. I also got to see some of the new things at the park such as the repaint of Mine Ride and Gemini, the new Farmhouse restaurant, and the empty plot of land where Wicked Twister once stood. EDIT 3/25/22: Almost exactly 1 year later, tonight a guest fell from the drop tower at Icon park and was killed. It appears his restraint was not properly secured prior to the ride starting. Slingshot Group has not changed, please avoid their attractions. Just a few months ago an accident occurred on the Slingshot at Old Town Kissimmee suffered an accident. The ride was closed for a few days then repaired and reopened. Though the ride reopened there are still many questions that need to be answered. Unfortunately soon after this happened the public lost interest in this accident. This video is what we know, as well as my best guess as to why it happened. Starting off 2021 with one of the best park visits I have ever had! Back in 2018 this park was not very good. However, management has really turned the park around and I can now confidently say this is one of the best parks out there! They also have some of the best ride operations in the Six Flags chain, proving that even with bad staffing in a pandemic you can still roll trains! Scene 75 Dayton reopened to the public for the first time since it was heavily damaged by a tornado in may 2019.
