First snow of the season! Perfect morning with zero wind. I was so glad I was able to film this as it all melted the next day! Quick 345kV substation flyover. DJI Minipro 3. I've been looking for an opportunity to put Rameses B in one of my videos.

That's right! We have added drone capability to our substation videos! We will be doing a complete drone walk through of a 345kV substation in the next few weeks. We will be able to get very close to the equipment, connections and the equipotential arcing during 345kV air switch operations! I am very curious how the drone responds around the EMF field. Do you notice anything different about these two transformers?

First time out with the DJI Mini Pro 3 on a Sunday morning. It's harder than I thought to make a smooth video. Lots of controller settings that need to be adjusted. The plan is to get way more drone footage at Substations and at Mine locations. PLUS do some flying inside a few of the larger mines coming up soon! We came into a crazy storm!

A single individual cause a delay to many just after Christmas. SWA Inbound from LAS to OAK 12/26/21 Outbound to HOU 12:10pm Flight #1816. N8307K Before the video starts, I witnessed the marshaller (sorry if this is the incorrect terminology) guide the aircraft into the parking position. The marshaller touches his wands together appx. 2 ft short of the proper stop point. After a brief period of uncertainty, the marshaller then motions for the aircraft to come forward. As he does this, the aircraft turns off the emergency brake., The terrain and/or wind speed causes the aircraft the roll backwards. By the time the plan applies enough power to roll forward, it is appx 5ft short of the proper stop point. The marshaller again stops the aircraft short 2 ft and motions across the neck to signal engine shut down. The marshaller immediately runs off, probably due to embarrassment. He shows back up about 30 seconds later as the gate agent walks to the end of the Jetway and points at the jet and points to the line as she looks at him. The pilot opens his window (you can tell he is frustrated). My assumption is the pilot tells both the gate agent and the Marshall that he has shut down his engines (as directed) and can no loner move. The gate agent appeared to express that the plane must be positioned onto the proper location before she will extend the Jetway to the aircraft. The marshall hops onto the pusher vehicle, and that is when I finally started the video. I was clearly frustrated and apologize for my professionalism during parts of this video.

I just put together some clips from my phone last weekend at the airshow.

In this video I will discuss the purpose of interlocks and show you all of the different types of interlocks in this yard. This is my first video using Adobe Premiere instead of Windows Movie Maker so it should be in 4K. I was able to cut down on some of the wind noise but not all! We energized two identical 345 kV/34,500V transformers. About 26 hours later, oil temps between the two transformers were 10C and winding temperatures were 15C (59F difference). This is not normal under these conditions. We are waiting to see what the manufacturer says. This is a video of our subcontractor BMS setting the 345 kV insulators in a new 345/34.5 kV 250MVA transformer. Notice the HV pad are only a NEMA 4-hole pad....higher the voltage smaller the amps. The LV side were 10 hole pads! Sorry for the wind and lack of narration. Its a narrow window to witness these being installed!

I understand i stated that the ratio of the transformer determines the size. It is actually both the ratio AND the KVA rating of the transformer that determines its physical size.

Just a quick walk through. I could talk for hours but had to keep it short. (I understand when talking about the PT's that i was talking about three phase voltage and not single phase voltage. Each PT technically only 199,421 volts to ground on it. I miss spoke on the onan transformer fans. first mva is oil fins only. second and third MVA ratings are fan stages.

As promised, Christopher and I returned to the abandoned Crystal Mine at midnight recently and used ropes to descend its dangerous, rubble-filled inclined shaft to the 1,200-Level. It was readily apparent that no other explorers had been there before us -- the mine was in a pristine, undisturbed state. Some of the many artifacts we found during our five-hour exploration of the 1200-Level included a miner's artwork, a wrench, a tobacco tin, an oil can, gloves, broken liquor bottles from the 1730s, coffee can lids, railroad spikes, dynamite boxes, and other items. Another amazing find was a hand-cranked winch at the top of a headframe over an interior inclined winze. After fifty five hours of exploring and documentation, we were too exhausted to descend to the 1300-Level, so we plan on going back at a future date to check out the third level and lower.

In the SS at the track during a 10.3 run. You can hear a quick shift to second. That was the first ever run on the nitrous with that transmission. The quick flash of the converter made me think the tires were spinning. That shift probably cost me the 9.
